salmon catch for 1901 was two million
cases, 40 to 75 por cent of tho United

for there are no storms there on the
west coast as' there are off Now Eng
land and Newfoundland. Mining pro
ducts nro important and Ketchikan
has a million dollar smelter. The pop
ulation, consisting of people who como
for adventruo or profit, is constantly
shifting, thus there a.ro no permanent
enterprises? Agriculture is rapidly in
creasing and potatoes, cabbages and
berries raised are of tho finest kind.
