Bowlby & Perrigo , the Omaha eye specialists will be at the Donoher hotel July 24. 26-2 Miss Cora Thackery is in town this week looking after her inter- ests as candidate for County Supt. Miss. Quibje , daughter of the County Treas. spent a few days in town visiting her father and friends this week. . M. V. Nicholson has gone to the western coast to spend several weeks .visiting the exposition and at other western places on busi- ness. Judge Quigley filed his nomina- tion for county 'judge with the county clerk Wednesday morn- ing and will probably be the only candidate to file for that office. George Corbin , our rustling . piano man received a c nsign- ment of thirteen pianos this week , which certainly speaks well for the piano business in Valentine. Sam Hudson came in Tuesday and says that four-foot one-horse lawn mower runs fine. Sam has about an acre of blue grass lawn and it is too much to cut by hand. Wash Honey , W. F. Parker and Dr. J. M. Tische of Wood Lake came up yesterday on busi- ness and to see the ball game be- tween Stanton and the home team. The work of excavating for the . Quigley building is completed and the masons have begun building on the front and back walls. Jas. Galloway is doing the mason work. , . T. A. Cutschall and son and daughter came down from Kilgore Monday on business and the two former will go from , here to Dal- las , S. D.before returning to Kil- gore. . gore.Mrs. ' Mrs. W. T. Kincaid returned this week from Denison , la. where. she was called on account of the serious illness and death of her father M. King who had just 're- turaed home from a visit at Val entine. Andrew Jelly came down from Ft. MacKenzie : Monday to visit home folks a couple of weeks. Thomas and his wife are here yet on a visit and the old folks will en- joy having their sons here with them this summer. The Stanton baseball boys have been camping down on the banks of the mill pond during their stay here and have demonstrated to our citizens that they can catch a good string of fish as well as play a tight game of baseball. , Andrew and \ \ Til1.MQrJ . , ' ssey are enjoying a visit from their sister Miss : May l\ Morrissey New York. Cherry county has not ; had a failure in the last ten years and some crops always do well here. 3 Alfred Pont , the editor of the Stanton : Register , is manager ( f the Stanton baseball team. . Valentine 2 = 3 ; Stanton 4 = 2 The Stanton baseball team came up'to play a series of three games with the Valentine boys this week , and , as a consequence , local base jail fans have had the opportunity ot seeing two snappy games. In the first game on Tuesday the locals lost by a score of 4 to 2. The contest was fast and scrappy with honors on both sides about even. In the ninth inning , with two men gone and two strikes on the batter , . an opportune hit brought in two runs , broke the tie and decided the game in Stant- \ on's favor. . Wednesday's game was a pitch er's battle in which both slab art- ists were backed by brilliant field- ing which kept the score down and the ' ierves of the spectators I on edge. The locals pulled oft'a nice victory by the score of 3 : to 2.1 Today's game was a walkaway for Valentine who out classed the Stanton boys 14 to 0. . . Spokane , Wash. - Prosper Mar ion , wanted at Valentine , Nebr. , on a charge of having murdered Dock Murphy in ISSi , is being held at Stevenson , Wash. , await- ing instructions for officers in Cherry county , Nebr. When ar rested Marion expressed surprise and denied his alleged identity. Marion : reached Stevenson three weeks ago , was seen in town a few . days ago by Dr. Harris of Carson ! who knew Marion when he ( Har ris ) was coroner in Cherry county Nebr. Harris told his suspicion to Sheriff S. L. Knox of Skamania county who sent word to Sheriff C. A. Rosseter at Valentine , Neb. , and received a message from Ros- seter to arrest Marion. Harry Hazard of Stevenson also is certain Marion is the man he knew by that name in Nebraska. I They met on the streets of Stev enson the other day and when he I made himself known to thp. sus- pect Marion replied : " 1'es , I know you , " then turned on his heel and walked away. Marion is accused of having killed Dock Murphy in a quarrel : over possession of a load of wood. Drs. Bowlby & Perrigo never advise the wearing of glasses un- less they are found necessary.
