Gambles Furniture Store New Business At 6th and Main Plattsmouths newest business Gambles Furniture Store, actual ly an expansion of a long-time business, officially opens Fri duy morning at the corner of Oth and Main. Operated by Herb Freeburg who also owns Gambles Store, the new store occupies the space formerly used as O'Connell's Dept Store until the O'Connell's discontinued business the past year. The furniture store Is on both basement and main floor levels and offers a complete line of home furnishings. The Freeburgs will continue to operate their Gambles Store at 417 Main. Union WSCS Has 'Guest Day' UNION (Special) It was "Guest Day" last Thursday aft ernoon of the Union Woman's Society of Christian Service with Mrs. E'mer Pike and Mrs. Charles Meredith as hostesses. Ladies from the Murray Pres byterian and the Nehawka Church were guests. Mrs. Em fcree of Plattsmouth was also a guest. There were fifty ladies in attendance. Guest speakers for the after noon were Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Dinsdale of Omaha, offi cers from the Nebraska Good Will Industries. Mrs. Carl Cross conducted the Prayer Group and led the devo tions. Mrs. Richard Schanot was at the organ for the musical part of the program. Mrs. Jameson's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Akeson of Lincoln, were among the guests calling. Other guests were Mrs. Keith Stooker, Nebraska City, Mrs. Clara Davis of Syracuse, Mrs. Anne Holmes of Gerlng, Mrs. Bruce Shurtleff of Lincoln, Mrs. Bob Tritsch, Helen and Edith Farley and Mrs. Nellie Shea. Mrs. Margaret Brendel of Mur ray and Mrs. Grace Kidder of Sargent were guests at the Jameson home July 14. Together with Mr. Jameson's sister, Mrs. Nettie Hubbard, they helped him celebrate his 82nd birthday. Dick Huebner Hurt In Accident Dick Huebner of Grand Is land Is out of the hospital now, after an auto accident July 3 in that city where he makes his home with his wife, and two children, Dickie and Johnnie. ' Huebner was parked at a stop' sign when a car hit him. His; family riding with him was not hurt., He suffered a broken vert ebra, and about $300 damage to his car. He was hospitalized three weeks; will have to wear a brace for two months. ' Mr. and Mrs. AJ Huebner, par ents of Dick, antf Mr. and Mrs. Dan Huebner were recent visit ors of the Huebner family in Grand Island. Mrs. Dick Huebner will be re membered here as the former Marilyn Tyson of Murray. It was necessary to amputate his leg. Mr. and Mrs. Harry White were in Lincoln Wednesday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. J. Howard Davis. Stopping for a few hours visit on Wednesday at the L. E. Lan caster home were Mr. and Mrs William Reed and family of Ta- coma, Washington. Mrs. Reed Is a grand-niece of Mrs. Lancaster and is a grandduaghter of Emil Madsen former resident of Plattsmouth. Staff Sergeant and Mrs. Don aid Syverson and family return ed from an enjoyable three weeks vacation in northern Minnesota and Canada. Sebert Litle is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Oma ha where he underwent surgery Wednesday. He is on the 7th Floor, Northwest Wing, room 706. CWF Missionary 2-14 If CWF met at the First Christ ian Church basement for a Mis sionary meeting Tuesday night. Mrs. Roy Carey presided at the meeting and Mrs. Mabel Haney gave the devotions. Mrs. George Whelen present ed the lesson. Fifteen were present. Mrs. Haney served refresh ments at the close of the meet ing. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leo nard of Riverside, Calif., were visitors here of relatives and friends. They were to leave for their home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Brubacher of Murray called at the Phil Rihn home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. William Bautro from Baltimore, Md., are .guests at the home of their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Barton. They plan to spend the next two weeks here. Weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Wiles were Mr. and Mrs. John Galloway irom Fallbrook, Calif. The Galloways were here to attend his class reunion Saturday night for the class of 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Wiles and Mr. Galloway were classmates. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Feld- housen left Saturday for Great Falls, Mont. Mr. Feldhousen Is with the Army Engineers and he has been assigned to a missile base there. He was formerly at the missile base at Nebraska City. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bennett from San Jose, Calif., are visit ing here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Lepert and their brothers and sisters. Thursday night dinner guests at the home of Mr., and Mrs. Herman Hennings were Mr. and Mrs. John Galloway of Fall brook, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leonard of Riverside, Calif. Mrs. Lorena Maxey, sister of Mrs. Llcyd Frady, has been vis iting the past week at the Frady home. She returned to her home at Leon, la., Wednesday taking Alice Frady with her. Alice will visit at the home of her aunt Lorena and grandmother Allen at Leon, and the Carl Duncan home at Allerton, la. Sr. Paul's Circle 1 Meets at Church Circle One of St. Paul's Evan gelical and Reformed Church met in the church parlors with 14 members and two visitors present. Luncheon was served at 1:30 by the hostesses, Mrs. Otto Pitz, Mrs. Orville Muller and Mrs. Pauline Hill. Mrs. P. A. Meisinger gave the devotional. Mrs. Pitz acted as chairman in the absence of Mrs. Richard Wohlfarth. Mrs. P. A. Hild won the door prize. A game was played for enter tainment. Next meeting will be Aug. 15 at the church for a covered dish picnic dinner at 12:30 o'clock. Meeting was closed by all re peating the Lord's Prayer. ' At Conference Gus Neumelster and Vilas Ketelhut of Nehawka are attend ing a Propane Short Course this week July 17-21 in Kansas City, Mo. The school is sponsored by Consumers Cooperative Associa tion (CCA), a manufacturing and wholesale cooperative which serves about 1,700 local coopera tives, including Farmers Coop Oil Co., Nehawka, for which the men work. Couple Observes 25th Wedding Date At Open House Mr. and Mrs. Lowell McQuln observed their 25th Wedding Anniversary, July 16, with Open House at the First Methodist Church in Plattsmouth. One hundred-fifty guests attended the occasion. Miss Pat McQuln of Under wood, la., niece of Mr. McQuln, sang "I Love Thee," and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dicks, also of Underwood, sang "O Promise Me." Mrs. Dicks is also a niece of Mr. McQuln. ' Seated at the guest book was Miss Karlene Senf, assisted by Mrs. John McQuin. The serving table was center ed with a three tier cake with pink and white roses and silver leaves, appointed with white candles. On the mantel was a basket of Gladiolus, a gift to the honored couple. Mrs. Robert Dicks cut the cake; Mrs. Don McQuin and Mrs. Sarah Rich poured coffee; Mrs. Marion Christenson and Mrs. Karl Senf poured punch. Mrs. John Stoll was in charge of gifts, assisted by Marcia and Mary McQuin and Linda Senf. Guests from out-of-town were many, coming from Union, Wa bash, Bellevue, Omaha, Fort Dodge, la., and Underwood, la., Rochester, N. Y. and Pascagou la, Miss. Tuesday evening the visitors and the family members here enjoyed a picnic and boating at the Plattsmouth Boat Dock. Thursday the group visits in Little Sioux, la., with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schmidt and son Kenny. Mrs. Schmidt is the former Lillian Solomon. Mrs. Elizabeth Solomon has another daughter, Mrs. Boyd (Edith) Lytle of California who. is unable to be present with the family group here. Reception Honors New EUB Pastor, Family at Mynard A reception in honor of Rev. and Mrs. Harold Onwiler and family was held at the Mynard E.U.B. Church on Thursday eve ning with a large attendance. A pound shower was presented to the family. Mrs. Wayne Hendrix acted as hostess lor the evening. Mrs. Robert Cole and Mrs. Thomas Grosshans presided at the beau tifully decorated tea table. The guests of honor received many nice gifts as they begin their new pastorate.
