Dushnell at the Elmore ranch and will take a short vacation John Rathje who has been in the em ployment of Henry Von Dargen decided he would return to Iowa and came in to take the train Saturday but while in town reconsidered his decision and wilt remain with his former employer another four months. Jas. Barry, Robt. Anderson and Adam Hucka were among those who went to Denver Friday evening. Chas. Burleigh has been returned here for the ensuing year by the conference. This is no doubt gratifing to Mr. Burleigh and family. James Tuttle departed for the east Mpnday A number of ladies and gentlemen went out to E. C. Roland's ranch to attend Ladies' Aid Society Thursday. Capt. Evans was in from Lawn Tuesday and went to Alliance on 46. Clarence Paul and Paul Armstrong went over toChadron Monday where they will attend school this winter, D. A. Paul, H. H. Rensvold and Chris Hansen went through town Monday en route to the Pine Ridge where they were going to get telephone poles for the fine high line their compny is building to town, Miss Alice Remington who has been employed by Geo. Zimmerman of Canton, went east for her health the first of tho week. J. J. Smith went up to the McGanon ranch Tuesday to drill a well. John Kinsella is the father of a fine boy born last week. E. L.Everett went to Denver Sunday. Frank Gardiner came down from the Cool ranch to finish up in the I. O. O. F. but could not on account of nearly all of the members beintr in Denver. He will be present next Monday night Robert Curry and John McCart have bought a seam threasher outfit which they expect 10 get here the last of the week. C. A. Posvar shlped some stock east Tuesday and bought a threashing machine while at the Slate fair at Lincoln J. M. McLean was ":n from Box Butte Wednesday. W. D. Johnson-went east with the cattle F. II, Johnson bought this week. The train was wrecked east of Alliance and some of the stock v.s killed. Mr. John son was not hurt. Dr. Smith and wife arrived from Cali fornia Wednesday. They have been visit ing in the east for some time. Mrs. Grant went to Marsland Wednes day. E, S. Kendall and wife visited with Mr. Kendall's sister, Mrs, Burleigh, this week. Frank Shimek is doing some excellent road work this year. LAKESIDE LIGHTS. Lakeside got her feathers frosted a few nights since. J. A. Crowther and wife went to Alli ance Saturday to attend the conference meetings Sunday, returning Monday. Clarence Cook and his sisters Floras and T&ae drove to Alliance Saturday to attend the conference meeting Sunday. Clarence and Floras returned Monday and Mae remained to attend the Alliance school. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Foster have gone to Denver to attend the rally of the national G. A. R. Mr. Fosterbeing an old soldier. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Barber Austin and Crovath of Luella were passengers on 41 Friday enrout to Denver, to attend the G. A. R. rally. They expect to return home on Saturday of this week. Leon Hancock had a little experience all his own, ivhile in Alliance Saturday night and Sunday, but as he seems a little delicate about the matter we'll not tell on him. There is no dishonor to Leon and we congratulate him on his lucky escape. Rev. and Mrs. Lyon returned from the conference session at Alliance Tuesday morning. Mr. Lyon has been returned to Lakeside for another ear and announces services at regular hours next Sunday Sept. 10, at Lulla and Lakeside. Mrs. E. Estes and children departed for Grand Island, Wednesday morning to join her husband who has secured employ ment at that place. The younger brother and his family of C. D. Handcock dropped off of 44 Tues day for a few days visit. They were going to Denver from Livingston, Mont. A brother of Mrs. J. S. Lunsford, with his family arrived on trian 44 Tuesday morning from Niobrara, Neb. His name is Kendall, a son of Mrs. Lucirtia Kendall and it is whispered that he intends to take his mother with hira when he returns. When indigestion becomes chronic it is dangerous. Jack frost made a visit in our neighbor hood, Sept 2 Otis Bass and family, took the train at Marsland Saturday night, for Denver where they will visit the soldiers' reunion and later the Exposition at Portland Ore gon Horse traders are thick about Canton now and trading is a way up in the key of G. Miss Jessie Leavitt, were visiting with Misses Orah and Jessie Clav ton, from Fri day till Sunday Hands are so scarce in this vincinity and work so plentiful, that some of our ranch men are offering 840,00 per month. Quite a number of the Canton select, went to the Pine Ridge for an outing Mon day, to pick plums and after traveling over a greater part of the Ridge and not finding any, they became tired and visited Ft. Robinsoa and a show at Crawford. They returned home Tuesday with four of the partj on tho sick list. It is understood that the work on tho telephone lino from Canton to Heming ford will begin on Sept. lU, poles to be distributed by that time. Eggs are so plentiful in Canton, the wholesale merchants, cannot keep up with the retail prices. Rev. Dover of Carpenter, and Mr, Fos ter of Alliance, attended the prayer meet ing at Canton, Friday, 00 their way to Belmont, Mr. and Mru. G. H. Clayton were visit ing with friends tho first of the week in Gcring. Our people who were trading in Hem ingford were Mrs. W. A Randall, Miss Pearl Broshar, G. E. Zimmerman, Charles Moravek. B. E. Curtis was out on his ranch Tues day looking after his heard of horses. Mrs Basset of Harrison Is here visiting friends. Miss Aggie. Moravek was in Hcmingford Tuesday taking music lessons under tho instruction of Mrs B. E. Johnson. Among the numerous ranchmen shipping stock this week are C. W Lockwood, Scott and Lewis Hood, W, A. Randall, Con Bass and Bert Longford. MARSLAND. C. A. McGoggy is shipping seventeen cars of baled hay to Casper Wyo. Tolman Bros, shipped two cars of cattle to Omaha Saturday. James Tollman ac companied the shipment. Mr, Hackett, the photographer, has tak en a section of land west of town and is building a house on it. ' Ava Snow sold her relinquishment south of town to Peter Hunsaker , bherifl Blrdsall was down from Chad ron last Tuesday, not on official business but bujing horses. A number of persons from this place at tended Gentry Bros, show and are loud in their praises of the wonderful performance of the trained dogs, monkeys, ponies and elephants. Misses Lillie Bocle and Tony Planansky have been taking painting lessons of Miss Grant and are producing some nice work for beginners. Inspector Lawson of Alliance was in town Saturday having come up to inspect a shipment of cattle. He discoursed some fine music while at the Commercial hotel. Miss Ava Snow returned home from Alliance Saturday. She was quite ill dur ing her stay there apd on her arrival home but is better now, James Sullenberger was an over Sunday guest at the Shipley ranch, twenty miles west of town, Mrs. Stephenson, mother of Mrs. True Miller is at the cancer hospital at Hot Springs being treated for a cancer in the mouth which is thought started from a diseased tooth, All hope for her speedy recovery, Mrs. Grant came in from Whitewood, S. D., Monday morning. She and her daughter, Miss Carrie, have gone to house keeping in the north upper rooms of the Joralemon house. . Miss Tony Planansky, the efficient cook at the Commercial hotel has gone home and her place is filled by Mrs. Con well of Ardmore. Mrs. John Kay and son, and her father, Mr, Miller, were in from Linton ranch Monday, Charley Hitchu is down from the ranch in Wyoming visiting his parents west of town. Mrs. G A. Walbridge and daughter, Marie came down from- Ardmore Friday for a two months visit with Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Richey. Mr. and Mrs. Marone have gone to housekeeping in the south upper rooms of rooms of the Joralemon house. Mr Ma rone is the new B. &. M. operator, Peter Hunsaker has been made section foreman at this place.
