That Minnesota is going to have the very best football it can under wartime circumstances will be the understanding when Dr. George Hauser and his - newly revamped coaching staff meet the 1942 squad to open spring practice on Mon day. March 30. During the last World war ath letics moped and nearly died from lack of attention, but this time the national policy calls for de tailed attention to physical condi tion and bodily hardening, and college athletic will be held up both as a means to those ends and as an example. Lettermen Expected. Twenty-five lettermen are ex pected back to lead the squad of better than 100 men who will get their first taste of drill under the coaching combination of Dr. Haus er, Red Dawson, Bud Wilkinson, Bert Easton, Sig Harris and John Ronning. When graduation took its toll last fall, 15 lettermen left and six of these were guards. Moreover, not too many of the men who will show up Monday are trained for guard duty. Best prospects are Wally Holmstrom. a letterman; John Bichankh, Bob Sanders and Oeorge Path, reserves; and Charles Dellaho of Virginia and Dick Plunkett of Austin, both outstand ing freshmen during fall and win- iter practices. COLD'S Drake Desires Aid in Hunt for f42 Queen ... of Annual Relays Des Moines, Iowa, (Special) The University of Nebraska hew been, invited to share in the nation wide search for the Queen of the 1942 Drake Relays. Invitations to enter a candidate for Queen have been issued to yearbook editors of all the schools which will partici pate in the Relays. The thirty-third annual event, which has become known as "America's Athletic Classic," will be held at Drake university in Des Moines, Iowa, the week-end of April 24 and 25. The contest is sponsored by the 1942 QUAX, . Drake university yearbook. The queen will be chos enon the basis of beauty, intelli gence personality and poise. The candidates are judged from photographs submitted by the year-book of the schools they rep resent and from information fur nished on questionnaires. Parties Are Feature. A two-day reign complete with parties, receptions, luncheons, par ade, the Drake Relays and the Re lays dance await the 1942 Queen. Escorts will be furnished by Drake fraternities and the 1942 QUAX beauties will act as her Court rf Honor. The Queen, the ninth to reign over the Relays, will be brought to Des Moines April 24 with trans portation as well as all expenses while she is in the city paid. In other years the Queen has come from Nortnwesi.ern univer sity (twice), Fresno State College in California, the University of Texas (twice), Butle university, the University of Missouri and Coe College in Iowa.
