of Trinity church, were invited to bo
come better acquainted with one an
other awl discuss the possibilities of
growth in their church circles. A few
of Mrs. Whiting's neighbors have decid
ed to get up a neighborhood club, Mrs.
Whiting entertained them Thursday,
when they decided that their club
should bo called the West End club and
that on certain occasions it should meet
in the evenings in ord?r that the hus
bands might take patt in them.
The reception givon by the vestry of
of the Holy Trinity church for Bishop
Williams, of Omaha, was held in the
church crypt Friday evening. The
members and friends of the church who
came to meet the new bishop were mot
by Mr. Eason and iuroduced to Bishop
Williams and Mra. Williams, Mre. Eaeon,
Mr. and Mrs. Rud4e, and Mr. and Mrs.
Ewing. The vestry feel that much of
the success of the evening wjb due to
Mrs. Gere and her able committee.
Several Kensingtons were given this
week. One of the most delightful wbb
given by Mrs. Shockey and Miss Davis
Friday afternoon at the home cf "Miaa
Dav'iB on couth Sixteenth street; An
unusually good tea was served to the
following ladies: Meedames Kennard,
Davie, Walt, Crandall, Smith, Sanderson,
Davie. Sanderson, McCulloch, Brown
fMd, Pitcher, Frost, Jerome, Whiting,
Miltonberger, Mosley, and Bennett;
Mieeee Polk, Ricketts, Hardy, Chambers
Fawell, Newbarn, Johnson, Cone, Eu
banke, and Crosby.
The Iowa Whist club was entertained
by Mr. and Mrs E. E.Spenceat their
nejr home on SeveDteanthand B streets.
Tha informal meetings cf the cluba are
always delightful, but this one was un
usually so, because of the delicious quail
supp r that was served at seven o'clock.
Those present were Messrs. and Mes
dameB Barbour, Kimball, Muoger, Holm,
LeGore, R'.cbarae, Fling, R, A. Holyoke,
E. L. Holjokeand Mra. Buck, of Crete,
mother of Mrs. Spencer.
Mra. and Mrs. Kelley wtre at home
to the Good Time3 Euchro Club Friday
evening. The presence of Mies Mc
Clure, a sister of Mrs. Kelley, and Miss
Beckwith, both of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa,
added to the pleasure of the evening.
Following the game a supper was served,
to which the following members of the
club sat down: Messrs. ani Meadamea
Marshall, Hoe, Qaord Woods, Curtice,
Morrison, Mirk Woods, .Kelby, Rsctor,
Mullen, Dorgao, FiUj?rald, Crancer;
Misses Harrison, Marshall and Nance.
The invited guest were Messrs. and
Mesdames Wilson, Leonard and Ladd;
Messrs. Joyce, Gittins and Baldwin.
A small dinner was given by Miss
Helen Gregory Friday night. Instead
of the usual name cards email penants
with the cole r j of the different colleges
of the men present were placed at their
plates. Phi Delta Tbeta colors and
Mowers were used as decorations. Those
present were Misses Garten and Coch
rane and Messrs. Tallman, of Wisconsin,
and Mor'ton, of Iowa college, and Mitch
ell, the president of the province, from
Nortwestern college.
The Oliver theater was packed from
parquet to gallery Tuesday night. The
"Little Minister'' was on the boards and
Lincoln's society people turned out in
large cumbers. Messrs. and Meadamea
Simon. Charles and Henry Mayer and
Miss Anna Mayer occupiod one of the
boxes. Another box party consisted
of Messrs. and Meidames George Woods,
John Dorgao, Mark Woods, Mr. Howe.
Mrs. W. J. Bryan left this week to
join her husband and son in southwest
ern Missouri, where Mr. Bryan has been
enjoying a week's hunting trip on the
game preserve of Colonel W. C. Wet
more. Mr, and Mrs. Brytfn will then
go to TexuB.
The Kansas-Nebracka football game
this afternoon will be well attended.
Mr. Carl Frlcke will be here from
Plattsmouth to see his old friends and
to help cheer for Nebraska. Messrs.
Bert Christie, Edwin Chapin and Clark
Powell, all of Omaha, will also be pres
ent. Mies Ilerberta Jaynes. of Omaha, is
expected here this morning to the Djlta
Gitnma breakfast. Miss Jaynes was
very popular in the univeriity circles
last year and her friends do not despair
of her coming back to school during th
s?cond semester.
Mrs. Helwig acd Mrs. Richards enter
tained the Junior Scroeis iu honor of
Mrs. Giles Gere Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mr8. Helwig. Congratu
lations and good-byes were exchanged
with Mrs. Gere by membtra of the club.
Mr. Gormaine Towle, of Omaha, the
young writer whose brilliant and graph
ic lettcn from the Filipines were so
much appreciated by Nebraska people,
visited Lincoln on Thursday.
Miss Sarah Alexander, of Omaha, is
here visiting Miss Burnhaoi for the
coming week and incidentally taking
in the football games this afternoon.
Miss Moody, of Beatrice, came to Lin
coin to aesibt ut the reception given by
Mrs. Harpham and Mrs. Blish.
The Phi Delta Theta fraternity ex
pect to entertain their guests in a body
at the football game.
The Phi Kappa Pdi fraternity will
have a co-ching party at the game this
afternoon.
Mrs. Babcock entertained informally
for Mrs. Curtis, of Chicago, Thursday
afternoon.
The Lincoln light infantry will give
an open drill and dance in the near
future.
