Funko opera house is Tim Murphy, who
will bo agon io his new political roman
tic comedy, "Tho Carpotbagsjor'' Iho
product of two such brilliant minds as
Opio Head, tho novoliat, and Frank S.
Pixley, who occupies a prominent posi.
tion in Chicago newspaper circloB. Mr
Murphy has not boon Boon to advun
tago in Lincoln since the days of "A
Texas Steer," when his character work
in tho leading role, that of Maverick
Brander, tho congropsman from tbo
Lone Star state, was Buch asuccuHB. Ho
is said t j have Bcored with "Tho Carpet

"A TexaB Steer"' brought him.
Mr. Murphy personates a Chicago auc
tioneer who is pent south to govern the
State of MiBtfiaeippi during the recon

in a hotbed of unconquered secession.
Tho simplicity and naturalness ot Mr.

Murphy's acting are its chief charm.
In the selection ot his company Mr.
Murphy has shown great care, with the
result that he is supported by an organ

pany is Miss Dorothy Sherrod, a charm
ing young actress, who is seen in tho
role of a tniea from Chicago, and viBit
ug hor father, the carpet-bagging gov
ernor, during her school vacation. She
wears soma dreesoB that will have much
interest for the young ladies of the pres

counterparts of the gowns that were
worn by the young ladies of that period
juBt after the close of tho civil war.
The action of "The Carpetbagger," as
the name indicates, Jb laid in the recon
