friends trooped in, evidently excited by
the suppression of tonao secro Mrs.
BucketafT arcse and, with some asperity
rtid they seemed to havo at ranged fcr
a very nice pat ty at which the Buck
staffs were not expected, upon which,
with characteristic decision, she reached
for her bonnet. It was with much dif
ficulty that she was persuaded to stay
for the first number, which was a
most graceful Breech from Mr. Lew
Marshall, presenting Mr. and Mrs.
BucketafT witu a handsome Hungarian
vase and a beautiful picture. The revo
lution of feeling was almost tco much
for the hostess of the Cotillon club.
Fortunately tha speech was long enough
for her to recover. It was a most happy
effort into which Lew, realizing the
probable delicacy of the eituation, had
put much thought. Afterwards Mrs
P. V. M. Raj mond p'ayed, Mrs. Lippin

The surprisingly few people who are.
left over from the early '70's regret to
hear of the death of Mrs. D. G. Hull at

Mrs. Hull was well known in Lincoln
twenty yetrs pgo. She had many
friends and contributed to the gaiety
and eosiatilityof the place generously.
Mrs. Fred Shepherd, who died on
Monday afternoon, was a wooianof such
exc3eding sweetness and gentleness that
the ordinary newspaper expressions of
loss and appreciation aro cheap and un
worthy of the character they attempt to
reca'l. As librarian of the city library
for several years she made friends of tho
hundreds who came within sight of her
face and within heiring of the all
womanly voice. Sho demonstrated an
ability to organize and administer af
fairs in some confusion before the as
sumption of the po3ition. Her death
was followed by that of her mother, Mre.
Curtiss, on Wednesday mornirg from
pneumonia, tho same disease which de
prived Mrs. Shepherd of her life. Mother
and daughter were very sympathetic in
life. Mrs. Curtiss leaves a husband and
daughter. Mre.Shepherd'syoungdauch
