THE OMAHA. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1921. 13 Problems That Perplex Answered by BEATRICE FAIRFAX r Alias Fairfax: I am 15 years 3d have a hard problem. A high school professor is making; love to me. It seems as though no mat ter where I go I find him bark of me. In other words. I cannot avoid nlm. H is Just as good looking as he can be. He Is utterly imposplbe, too. But who .wants a married man? I surely don't. Every time I meet htm h tells me how much he loves me and I've told him not to bother me, but It is of no use, he persists. I treat him Just as cold as I am per mitted to. as you know I mtmt be very careful how I talk to him, as he is much older than I am and I bejievo in respecting your elurs, but. what aro you going to do when they act that way? I am considered very good looking by everyone. Moct everyone thinks I resemble Olive Thomas. But beauty is only skin deep. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so good looking, because I think it does roorerharm than good to a girl, well, I certainly will appreciate your ad vice. I do not believe your story. This is blunt, isn't it? Girls your age aften have silly notions about mem . Per v hups your professor is trying to be helpful to you and you are misinter pretlng him. Of course if he has ac tually made love to you. then I am entirely In the wrong. But I cannot boli&ve a' professor in one of our Omaha schools would do such a thing. Now, if, you are really truth ful in what you say to me, let me tel.l you that that man is a dangerous criminal, no matter how fine he seems. With all haste, go to your principal. You need have no fear of notoriety. Your principal will nyt pxpose you, but he will , get ridof a man so base tin to make love to Uttla high school girls. FIHL LORE, DORIS BLAKE f3 7T X Jealous Fears. My Dear Miss Fairfax: Two years tto was introduced to a man with whom I Inter fell in love. "Steadies" vera forbidden then, as I was firi ng high school. For nearly the ast year this man (he is 27) had been ' going steadily with another girl .'(!& ls BSK Occasionally he took nie places as too did other girls. I also went places with other men. Twe,'m6ntha ago he broke friendship with", this girl.. Since which time I have been going with him. Now he has asked mc to marry him. I love him, everyone likes him-, for he is a wonderful chap, but if through fu ture years I harbor the thought, ''I suppose he came back'to me be cause he couldn't get her," I see little liapplnessnhead. Of courso should I say ''No. I will never tell him why. Kindly give me your opinion. . BEATRICE. ' You are very foolish, my dear girl, to harbor shuch a thought as "He cam) brick t me because he couldiv't get her." - Men don't go back to a girl unless , they care for her. - I think it a wonderful tribute to this man's regard for you that he gave you some time to think' the matter over. You say you were permitted to gr with him steadily two years ago.Tou will have a miserable life, I assure yqv;-if you borrow trouble. If this man say he loves you, I think I would try to believe him and "lyould wai-untit he gaye.me some cause for doubting him before I - started t worry - over a jealous !l thougTtt. ' Not a Real Love. Dear Miss Fairfax: While on my Vacation last summer I met a very nice young man, who later took me out a good deal. Since I have come back to the city he writes to me and isnds me gifts. I like him - very I uch. but I don't know whether Ti love him. He has often told me of' hJs love, but I have always laughed at him. How caA I tell, whether I love him or whether it is just a friendship? X have always been afraid that I might marry and then find out too late I did not love my husband. B. If you -love the man, you'll know it. Doubt goes down before a big love. Now you are probably fond of the man, dellghtedvathis attentions, and proud of the fact that you of all girls interested in him were the one to win. Flattered by his attentions and appealed to by his feelings, 'you're in a selfish state that is self love rather than the outward reach ing, objective love yo) can feel when the right time comes. Broken-Hearted: If you love the man I can see no objection to your marrying him, provided you are 61d enough. Why do you talk of run ning away to marry him? Won't het marry you in an horiorable, decent way at' your own home? Do not accept money from him until you are married. If your father beats you, he ought to be stopped by the public authorities. One wrong does not right another, however. Do not m.ike the mistake of starting your whole married life wrong, just be cause your father does not treat you right . . . 1 Anxlouo: The Omaha public li brary has many books on entertain -mentis for all occasions. To find the unlucky one among a number of people, count "oncry, twory, zachery, zen, hollowbone, crackcrbonc, willberry, waxstone, tollaway, tan." The one on whom falls the Jast word is the unlucky one. Another count for the same purpose is: "Izort, twosort, zigzort, zal. bobtail, a dominceker, tec, taw, fttal. halem. scalem. zinktuin zank- tum, buck, spur, lom, drive the. nail, good old man. , I Fate steals along with silent tread. Found oftenest in whaV leapt we dread, Frown in the storm with angry brow, But in the sunshine strikes the blow. - ' If-you boast of a thing you are sure to lose it. This is what was meant by "cursing by loud praise," the same as damning with taint praise. If a person always keeps saying over every trifling , annoyance or disappointment, O. tis just my luckr fuch person will never be iucky. To think you are lucky and successful is. to make yourseit so. Think persistently of success, and deny the possibility of evil and, no matter how unlucky you have been, your luck will, change. To watch tor any one 10 come is a sign, he will not come. , . . Oysters for Buffet Supper An easy and acceptable way to serve oysters for a buffet supper is to have prepared ovals of fried bread, just large enough to hold a medium sized oyster. Dry each oys ster carefully on soft cheesecloth, place one on each oval of bread, sea son with salt, pepper, lemon juice, and, if liked, a little liquid horse radish. vOn top of each put X bit of bacon no larger than one's thumb nail. Fasten this to the oyster with a toothpick. Arrange these on an inverted baking tin and place in oven or under gas flame of broiler until bacon crisps. The melted fat from this flavors the; oyster dclici ously. Roasting a Duck The broiling oven, thoroughly and solidly hot, is probably best for the duck because the tire can be qujck and hot but not fierce. Brown quickly, unless - previously treated with hot fat, and lower the tempera ture, 100 or more degrees.
