New York, June 18. The center
of interest in todiy's markets lay in
the bank statements.. As was to be
expected at the, end of a week of
transactfoin of magnitude, including
the retirement of a great block of
treasury certificates, the payment
for a new block of the same japer,
income and excass profits tax pay

disbursements, the banks disclosed
some radically changed items.
As member institutions liquidated
a large amouut of loans,' the fceral
reserve banks' ratio of reserve to
liabilities advanced nearly 2 ptr cent,
compared with the preceding week,
the rate being 42.5 per cent, against
40.6 per ceit. Members reduced re
discounts of notes secured by gov

$88,000,000 and cut down commercial
paper rediscountssnearly $24,000,000.
This they were assisted in doing by
the fact, that, the proceeds of

New York, June 19. Flv full sessions
of perfunctory and very uncertala price
movements have followed the republican
national convention which adjourned last
Saturday night.
In the oplplon 'of observes, however,
the market's apathy was hardly due to
political developments which In their Im
plications seemed to be accepted as favor
able to the continued prosperity of do
mestic Industries.
Transpogtatlda conditions Improved to
thk extent that It was possible to send
larger quantities of grain to distributing
points and' increased shipments of fin
fliheii steel and iron were renorted. In some
lines of manufacture, notably textiles, cur
tailment of production prevailed.
Railroad sharea which had been under
pressure as a retnaa of the reduced Chi
cago & Northwestern dividends rallied
moderately when It became evident that
this incident was not sympathetic of gen
eral conditions. r
Cah money was abundant at the ruling
rare of 7 per cent, but no relief from the
protracted stringency In time money was
evinced, nor Is any favorable change ex
