Johnson in Bitter Attack
On N. Y. Primary System
New Brunswick. N. J., April 8.
Senator Hiram W.'Johnson, candi
date for the republican presidential
nomination, in an address here at!
tacked New York's primary system
as "merely a left-handed way by
which the bosses get at the situa
tion." "It is designed," he said, "to pre
vent, rather than permit, of the vot
ers' choice for president. The law
was engineered by the machine or
ganization which hoped by passing
a law of that sort to prevent the
adoption of a real primary system."
