Cattle There was another decrease In
rattle receipts today, total being 2,900
nead, or about half the size of Wednes
day's arrivals. For the four days some
zz.buu nnve neon received as compared
with 20,900 a week ago, but 29,600 a year
ago. Beef steers were very alow to move
this morning and the heavy kind went at
15 and Zi cents lower prices. Limit.
weights and yearlings, however, sold about
steady. Fur the four days the market is
steady to a quarter lower. She stock also
moved extremely slow, with' both packers
Land shippers doing very little purchasing;
ail the sales that were mane, however,
were barely steady with the early "market
yesterday, although not as low as previous
close. Compared with last weeK's close,
prices are very nearly steady. Trade in
miockers and feeders was not very active.
L-vlthough prices were unchanged from the
day before. As compared; witn last weeK s
close, unces look very uneven, some
little higher, while others are weak to
26 cents lower.

Chicago Grain and Provisions.
Chicago, Feb. 19. Scantiness of receipt:
gave an advantage today to bulls in the
corn market. After something of a set
back at tile opening, prices advanced and
me, close was lirm. liiuzuc net higher,
with May $1.3374 1. 34 and July $1.30

sions the result varied from 7c decline
to a rise or 6c.
Although sneculative sellers tried to
force the corn market downward as soon
trading began, they met with only
brief success. An upturn in values com

been taken for export helped the oata
market to advance. Bearish Canadian
gossip was ignored. Falling off in de

ottscc in provisions any svinuathy with
upturn of grain. Packers were sellers of

DROP IN FOREIGN
EXCHANGE SHOWS
ON THEJ1 ARRET
Quotations On Live Stock
Show Decline to Wartime
Prices Commission Men
Blame Money Decline.
That, the drop in the value of
foreign exchange is. affecting the
South Side live stock market is
evidenced by a comparison of prices
and the condition of the market.
The middle of the week exhibits
consistently lower quotations on all
kinds of killer cattle, which have
been noticed the last two weeks, es
pecially the beginning of this week.
Quotations on good, choice
beeves are now $11.50 to $13. This
is about the level prices in 1917.
when the United States entered the
war.
The same grade of beef at'that
time was quoted at $11.75 to $12.80,
with fairly good material at $10.75
to $11.75, as compared with $10 and
$11.50 now, while the common to
fair meat was selling higher then
at $9.50 to $10.75.
Several causes are ascribed for
the drop by local commission men,
but the most important reason is
said to be the drop in. the foreign
exchange.
