That, the drop in the value of foreign exchange is. affecting the South Side live stock market is evidenced by a comparison of prices and the condition of the market. The middle of the week exhibits consistently lower quotations on all kinds of killer cattle, which have been noticed the last two weeks, es pecially the beginning of this week. Quotations on good, choice beeves are now $11.50 to $13. This is about the level prices in 1917. when the United States entered the war. The same grade of beef at'that time was quoted at $11.75 to $12.80, with fairly good material at $10.75 to $11.75, as compared with $10 and $11.50 now, while the common to fair meat was selling higher then at $9.50 to $10.75. Several causes are ascribed for the drop by local commission men, but the most important reason is said to be the drop in. the foreign exchange.
