FAMILY RUMPUS
HAS ELEMENTS
OF MOVIE PLOT
Man . Befriends . Widow,
Brother Has Man Arrested,
: Widow , Tries Suicide,
Uncle to Rescue, Etc.
; A seriej of family 'troubles in
volving a feud between brother and
sister, a refusal of the woman to
marry a chance acquaintance, an at
tempted suicide and the ultimate ar
rest of a friend of the woman on a
serious charge, was the scenario
aired at central police station with
1 the arrest Friday night of Frank
Kellerman, 35 years old, 1922 South
Twentieth street.
Max Rosenstein, 1611 North
Twenty-fourth street, swore to the
, warrant for the arrest, the com
plaint stating that Kellerman had
been unduly intimate with Mrs.
Beulah Israel, 34 years old, sister of
Max Rosenstein, at 1922 South
Twentieth street.
Kellerman was released yesterday
under $1,000 bail-bond, signed by
Joseph Haykin, 2222 Howard street,
uncle of Mrs. Israel.
Since the death of Mrs. Israel's
husband last December, the wom
an, mother of three children, has
been unable to attend properly to
running her grocery store at 1922
South Twentieth street. Kellerman,
an . employe of the ; Union ; Pacific
shops and a life long acquaintance,
has been assisting the woman in
her struggle.V
: Last Tuesday noon, Mrs. Israel
attempted suicide in the rear of the
store by swallowing two ounces
of poison. She ' told police her
irothrr, Max Rosenstein, had been
Uioundiii-i her to death" because she
.refused to marry a Harry Rosen
of Sioux City when he proposed to
her." .
- "I didn't even know the man, and
llax wanted me to marry him so I
would be able to give him $500
which he had been demanding of
jne," Mrs. Israel told police.
Harry Haykin, cousin of Mrs.
Israel, said that Rosenstein has "pes
tered" the woman for $500 in pay
ment of ' government allotments
which Mrs. Israel is said to have
received through her brother.
Mrs. Israel is seriously ill from
the effects of the poison. She was
unable to open the store for busi
ness yesterday. Her sister, Mrs.
Haykin, 2222 Howard street, is with
her.

; After 20-Mile Tramp
' Casper, Wyo., Oct. 18. George
Chandler, prominent oil man, who
disappeared in the blizzard in the
Red desert," October 3, died of cold
within three miles of his goal after
tramping 20 miles through the storm
from his stalled automobile. His

Visiting Nurse Who
Wed Sailor With a 1
"Cinder in His Eye"
iililllllll
i v.
"':' i
Mrs. Ralph Hershey is known to
the members of the Visiting Nurses
association of Omaha as Annie An
drews, and it was only a few days
ago when her name was changed.
Her resignation from the association
will be effective November 1.
While serving at the Union station
as hospital nurse in connection with
canteen work she met a sailor boy
who was suffering from effects of a
cinder in one of his eyes. She re
moved the cinder and then followed
the romance which culminated ir.
their recent marriage at Trinity
cathedral:
Some of the sailors at the local
recruiting office heard of the inci
dent, so they went down to the
Union station and looked around
for cinders with which to put in their
eyes. , . - . ' .:
Weevil Epidemic In Wheat
Caused by Car Shortage
Chicago, Oct. 18. -Wheat handlers
say there is a regular epidemic of
weevil in the wheat arriving now.
Thrv hrhrvf that owinc to shortage
of railroad cars preventing shipments
the grain was held in old wooden
elevators long enough for the few
weevils generally present to increase
materially.
Wheat containing weevil cannot
be graded higher than "sample," and
even then the buyers ask for 5 cents
a bushel discount on all carloads
which are rejected as too heavily in
fested with weeviL '
