OMAHA, NEBRASKA Every road-leads to Rome, says an 'old proverb. True enough, one may go to Rome via China, the Si berian deserts, through Germany, Switzerland and Italy and finally land in Rome. Many roads lead to Omaha, and the following nine great national highways pass right through the city, THE HEART OF THE MIDDLE WEST: Lincoln Highway, George Washington Highway, 0. L. D. High way, River-to-River Road, White Pole Highway, Black Hills Trail, Blue Grass Highway, King of Trails, I. 0. A. Shortline, Glidden Trail, 0. K. Highway, Pioneer Trail. Nine trunk line railroads and 22 branches enter the city. Omaha has direct railroad connections with more cities in the Middle West and especially in Nebraska, than any other point with the exception of Chicago. Its hotel and amusement facilities are unexcelled. All large opera companies, bands, symphony or chestras and spectacles avail themselves of the Omaha Municipal Auditorium in their trips across the conti nent. A charter amendment carrying provisions for $150,000 for enlargement and reconstruction of the Auditorium is now pending before the legislature and is expected to pass within the next few days. In addition Omaha has five large theaters, 37 cino matographic houses, ball park, race track and athletic field, to say nothing of the big Ak-Sar-Ben festivities. Omaha's hospitality leaves a lasting impression on a visitor. There is so much of historic and civic interest to see libraries, art galleries, the largest balloon school in the United States, schools, universities, stock yards, packing houses, railroad shops, smelter, oil refineries, gas and electric plants, Minne Lusa pumping station, auto and tire factories, etc. Almost everything used in home and business life is manufactured in Omaha, and the processes may be seen in actual operation. Omaha has one of the largest public libraries west of the Mississippi, also large law, medical and other libraries devoted to special topics. The public library contains over 135,000 volumes. Each year at least 10,000 new books are added. An art gallery and museum is maintained in con nection with the library. A noted private art gallery is open to the public two days a week. e Omaha takes pride in the fact that it has no tene ments nor slums, but that more than 200,000 persons are housed in comfortable homes, 50 per cent of which are owned by the people living in them. The head of the house has every opportunity to make a business success, because Omaha has the loca tion and transportation facilities which make it a great commercial center. Children have exceptional educational advan tages. The family as a whole can enjoy the best there is in art, music, religion, parks and clubs. Omaha is serving the Middle West through its universities, colleges, academies, seminaries and schopls of law, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, account ing, nursing, business colleges and normal schools. The high quality of instruction obtainable is uni versally recognized. Omaha offers Metropolitan opportunities to the students. v Their morals are safeguarded by more than 125 churches of all denominations, by the Y. M. C. A., the FY. W. C. A. and similar organizations. Omaha s climate is conducive to health and study. Omaha has good water, parks, athletic opportuni ties, laboratories, libraries, art galleries, clinics, ample scope for a broad education the kind that pays, and desirable opportunities for students' employment.
