Omaha is to see a niece of the
famous Fred Stone who is now play
ing in New York in the musical
With death hovering close, C. S.
Smales of Dunbar has directed a
touching appeal to The Omaha Bee
for aid, in locating his wife, who has
been gone for over four weeks.
, Mr. Smales is on the verge of
death. He is afflicted with heart
trouble and the physicians whom he
has consulted fear for his life. To
the slow an 1 unbearable tor--ture
of waiting for Certain death is
added the pain of seeing his chil
dren surferinjf in the throes of influ
enza and daily growing weaker.
And the wife is not at home. She
left four weeks ago, how or why Mr.
Smales does not state in his letter.
The husband is broken both in
health and spirit. He is nearly ready
to quit the unequal struggle. The
letter, written to The Bee, follows
in part:
"I ant appealing to you to help
me find my wife, who has left our
home. I am ill with heart trouble
and the doctors do not expect me to
live. All the members of my family
are also down with the influenza. .
"I do not think my wife knows our
condition and I hope that she may
see the item in your paper and re- I
turn td our home.
"I am anxious that the item be I
inserted at once. If you are willing ;
to take a chance and print an article
about this you will ,be doing an tin- :
forgettable favor to a heart-broken i
man. You may be sure. I am not
looking for advertisement, as this '
, may be my last effort to hud her.
