Chriitie, Newly Eect4 Hed of Omaha Board, Be views Distinguished Dynasty. a. H. M. Christie, newly elected pres idetit of the Omaha Real Estate board finds himself the successor of quite a distinguished dynasty of pres. idents, beginning with the organiza tion of the old Real Estate exchange in 1887. Chris Hartman was the firsi president and held the office for a number of years. He was a man who at that time took an active interest in public affairs, in the politics of the city, county and state, and was a well ., known man. E. A. Benson, following, was thtr . second president and as he lookt, back to those days "distance lend ' enchantment" and he isn't sure but that he "served most 10 years." He , probably did serve four or fvr. years, for in those days there was no limit , to the terms which a man might Of etipy the executive chair of the Real Estate exchange, as there is now. A. P. Tukey followed Benson, with' at least three years and proved to be a most efficient president. YV. H. ; Green was the next president and j naturally stirred things up. The at tendance in those days of 20 years ago was fully as large as the attendance i is now, and the interest as great. The policy of this roal estate organ iza- . tion of that period was decidedly of a " public nature and the affairs of the city and county were carefully watched. It was about this time that the exchange did what the older members point to as the greatest job in the history of the organization, se- :. curing the readjustment of the taxa- tion of the railroads and bringing about the local taxation of railroad terminals. One-Term Presidents. Following Green came George G. Wallace, with two years; C. F. Har 'rison, two years: V. T. Graham, whe boasts that it was at the end of his first and only year that he insisted upon only one term for the presi dents. The one-term men who have followed are S. P. Bostwick, John W. Robbins, Fred D. Wead, C. C George. Byron Hastings, George T. Morton, Frank H. Myers. W. H. Thomas and E. M. Slater, with C. F. Harrison having the honor of being slipped in for another term between Thomas and .Slater. Harrison and Green are the only men in the long list mentioned who have been called back to the president's chair after the lapse ot "years. while the presidents of the Real Estate board, formerly the Real Es tate exchange, are limited in their service to one year, the secretaries go on forever. V. G. Shnver looked after the records for years in the early days. He was followed by Alex U. Charlton. Harry A. I ukev suc ceeded Charlton for nine years. Fred Creigh followed for several years and ueorge u. Wallace has lust been elected for the second term, following Lreigh. In all these .10 years of distin guished and useful history this long line of well known men who have served the Real Estate board have been lightly dealt with by death. Mr. Hartman passed away a number of years ago. V. H. Thomas left this life within a year, while Alex C. Charlton passed away a few years ago. The other men all continue to be interested in the affairs of the board and of the city. Auto Plates Delayed. (From a Staff Correspondent.) Lincoln, Dec. 30. (Special.)
