CHICAGO teR.MJf AND PROVISIONS.
Abundant Offerings of Cora 4'anseg Trices
To Decline oa ths Market.
Chicago, Aug.. 23.vAbundant offerings
caused com prices tj decline early today,
only to advanee In ' greater degree later
when, notable buying Induced shorts to
hasten to cover their lines. The closo was
strong and near the top fins.! figures be
Inr Ho to lo net higher with December
at $1,094 to $1.0914 and May st $1.06
to (1.07. Wheat finished at $3.07, an ad
vance of le for the September option. Last
prices for oats wsre unchanged to o
higher and provisions finished from a
shads lower to 15a higher.
I'ntll ths surplus offerings were taken off
tho markst ths trend of oorn prices was
downwsrd. News from the fields ss to pros
pects and weather was bearish, danger of
drouth damage being said to be over, while
reports told of big yields. Strong cash
prices, coupled with curtailment of offer
ings, Induced covering ss ths market ad
vanced. Wheat trading was dull and prices full
off esrly. The rally later was unimpressive
and representative only of tho desire to
complete outstanding contracts In Septem
ber, the only trading- option.
Oats had a firm undertone which , re
sponded when corn advanced. Country of
ferings were light snd cash figures some
what higher, which contributed to the up
turn. . ' ' i
Provisions fell off at the start due to
the weakness of the hog market. A lively
demand, however, took the prices to higher
levels. October, lard was conspicuous In
thn trading.
