At a dinner given Tuesday evening
bv Mr. and Mr4. K. M. Fairfield, Miss
Betty Fairfield, the young' danghter
of the house, was suddenly thrnst into
her mother s place as hostess by the
latter't inability to appear, owing to a
severe cold. That Miss Betty was
enual to the occasion she very well
proved, for this young high school
girl is well posted on the subjects of
the dav and has ideas and opinions
on things political as well as social.

take possession in April, Mr. and

Hundreds of Trains Were
Tied Up by Snow Blockade
The Union Pacific general offices
have made some calculations as to
what the Wyoming snow blockade
that held from Jan nary 27 until Feb
ruary 4 meant in the matter of de
laying traffic. During the period a to
tal of 120 passenger trains were tied
np and unable to move a wheel over
a distance of 100 miles.
During the period of the blockade
no attempt was made to move freight
through the snow-bound rone. Cal
eulations on the exact number ol
freight trains tied up has not been
made, but there were clote to seventy,

auditorium Friday afternoon and eve
ning. This entertainment was post
poned some time ago on account of
the illness of Miss Shipherd, the
leader.
The Woman's club has completely
fitted out the city rest room with
furniture and a rug, also reading mat
ter. A pnblic opening exhibition will be
given in the near future at the gym
nasium. Rev. Mr. Calvert has been
appointed chairman of the committee
on arrangements.
Mrs. lames McClnng was called to
Greely Center, Neb., last week by the
death of her father, a pioneer ot the
state and nearly 90 years old.
Mr. Will Ellis of Crete and Miss
Rachel Stander of Louisville, Neb.,
