Quiet and Cereal Prices

The caah grain situation waa very quiet
again today and although the receipts were
fairly heavy and the holdover samples from
Saturday were on the tables, only a small
part of the offerings were disposed of bef
fore noon. The dullness In the cash situa
tion waa the result of the decline In the
future market and very few of the sellers
cared to sell on the decline, the bulk of the
wheat sales being made up of the poorer
samples and the better asmplca were held
ovr for tomorrow's market, The" wheat
market generally waa quoted from 102c
lower, with a few cars of No. 2 hard going
at $1.8901.9O, and the No. 3 hard at
IJ601.83.
The corn market was also weak, at 0
c declines, and the sales of this cereal
were also very light. The demand for
com waa. however, pretty active, with the
yellow selling at a pre m turn over the white
and mixed. The commercial gradea of yel
low corn brought from 9304e while the
same gradea of mixed and white corn aold
for 910 93c.
The oats market waa extremely dull at
t declines and only two cars of this
cereal were reported sold.
Rye and barley were also quiet, rw be
ing quoted le lower and barley about
unchanged.
Clearances were: Wheat and flour equal
to 1,316,000 bushels; corn. 397,000 bushsls;
oats, 386,000 bushels.
Primary wheat receipts were 1.46M0O
bunhels and shipments 641,000 bushels,
against receipts of 2.321,000 bushels and
shipments of 771,000 bushels last year.
Primary corn receipts were 1,874.000
bushels and shipments 817,000 bushels,
against receipts of 2,216,000 bushels and
shipments of 662 000 bushels Isst year.
Primary, oatat! receipts were 944,000
bushels and shipments 426,000 bushels,
against receipts of 1,237,000 bushels and
shipments of 122,000 bushels last year.

The report that President Wilson would
address the senate on foreign relations to
day had a depressing effect on the wheat
market today and - after a fairly strong
opening the May and July articles suffered
a sharp break, the May dropping to $1.81
and the July to $1.46.
The bears did not remain In control,
however, and. shortly before the close a
buying rally was started, which forced
May wheat to $1.84 and July to $1.48, and
the market closed about c under thts
high point of the day,
Unfavorable Argentine crop reports were
given aa I he reason for the late advance
In corn, although May corn followed the
Marly break In wheat, but later regained
Its losses when wheat started to advance.
The oats market was dull and the May
option carried the bulk ot the business In
this market and closed e higher.

day, but the gains were not all held. The
market closed unsettled, yo to 2n net
higher, with May at $1.86 to $187, and
July at $1.53 to $1.58. Corn finished,
0c to c up and oat at an advaace
or a shade to 0c. In provisions the re
sult was a decline of 607c to 17c.
At first the purpose of the president was
the subject of much misunderstanding In
the wheat trade and there was a rush to
sell on account of hasty Inferences that
he might d I close a new crlsla with Germany
regarding submarines or about the status of
armed merchantmen. As aoon, however, aa
the speech hsit gone far enough to Indi
cate that he was dealing exclusively with
the topic of a league to enforce peace, sell
ers of wheat turned quirk Ijr to the buying
