Omaha Future Market. The report that President Wilson would address the senate on foreign relations to day had a depressing effect on the wheat market today and - after a fairly strong opening the May and July articles suffered a sharp break, the May dropping to $1.81 and the July to $1.46. The bears did not remain In control, however, and. shortly before the close a buying rally was started, which forced May wheat to $1.84 and July to $1.48, and the market closed about c under thts high point of the day, Unfavorable Argentine crop reports were given aa I he reason for the late advance In corn, although May corn followed the Marly break In wheat, but later regained Its losses when wheat started to advance. The oats market was dull and the May option carried the bulk ot the business In this market and closed e higher. Local -range of options: ArtTj Open. High. Low. Chicago, Jan. 32 President Wtlaon'a ad dress on foreign relations brought about a material upturn In the price ot wheat to day, but the gains were not all held. The market closed unsettled, yo to 2n net higher, with May at $1.86 to $187, and July at $1.53 to $1.58. Corn finished, 0c to c up and oat at an advaace or a shade to 0c. In provisions the re sult was a decline of 607c to 17c. At first the purpose of the president was the subject of much misunderstanding In the wheat trade and there was a rush to sell on account of hasty Inferences that he might d I close a new crlsla with Germany regarding submarines or about the status of armed merchantmen. As aoon, however, aa the speech hsit gone far enough to Indi cate that he was dealing exclusively with the topic of a league to enforce peace, sell ers of wheat turned quirk Ijr to the buying side. A rise of nearly 4a from the bottom figures ef the dxy ensued. Then came news that the president had declared for a peace without victory, and there was a notlcnablc renewal of bearish sentiment tn some quar ter, certain leaders taking the position that the expression of such views might lead to friction between tha United States and the entente allies. The butter industry is the third, largest industry in Omaha and Omaha leads the world in the manufacture of butter. Creamery Stock is in the front rank of industrial securities because the product manufactured is one that is in daily use three times a day, 365 days of the year. The food value of butter makes it one of the three chief necessities of life. There is alwafS a market for all the butter manufactured regard less of its quality, because the demand is far greater than the sup ply. The history of all the well known creameries and the increased value of their stock is conclusive evidence of their safety and ex ceptional earning power. The Preferred stock of the Alfalfa Company is even more attractive from the investor's standpoint than the majority of creamery stocks, from the fact that a GUARANTEED-dividend of 7V4 per cent is as sured, but the dividend is not limited to that rate, as this stock is cumulative and participating (sharing with the common stock in the . increased dividends that this company is certain to pay) and in addi- 1 tion this stock is nonassessable and nontaxable (tax being paid by the company).
