The prospects arc for a bullish Bet of

fact that manipulation Is put of the

however. In Oklahoma and northern
Texas, where wheat was reported Joint

Stocks afloat on the lakes were respon

grain has not been unloaded, congestion
at Buffalo interfering. Predictions that
the Canadian Import duty would bare
moved soon after the assembling ot Par

Corn suffered a sharp break, owing to
mM wather and a consequent enlarge

of the speculative bulls sold out and there
was no support from shorts. Oat. proved
relatively steady. The reason seemed to
be that lake shipments from Canada had
virtually sioppea. . , .
Although provisions started firmer be
cause of an advance In the hog market,
selling developed sufficiently to bring
about a setback. Longs unloaded an un
usual amount of ribs.

expected higher prices for their beef cat
tie and wera priclnjr them accordingly,
but buyers were very slow about putting
on for tho reason that Chicago had a big
rim and early advices from that point in-
ulcated a lowur tendency tn tlm m-i,.
ror that reason the market on beef steers
at this point was slow with prices gen
erally kbout steady with last week. .
Cows and heifers were scarco and as
thore was a pretty fair demand prices
were anywhere from steady to loo or
more higher, Tho market, however, was
uneven, the bettor prices being paid for
such cattle aa happened to suit buyers'
ideas
Heavy feeders were slow and not overly
strong, but llghtor grades were active
and fully steady,

"Port made today on the society by the
insuranco aeparimenis 01 Illinois, ne-
braska and Wisconsin. An examination
of the affairs of the Canadian organlza- '
tlon has been In progress for several
months.
The question raised is said, to affect
every person holding a policy of any
kind by an Insurance, company or an or
ganization of a foreign country. Accord
ing to Herman 1 Ekern, insurance com
missioner of Wisconsin, lf.lt Is once rec
ognized that contracts Issued In the state
under a license to the Insurance company
or society can be repudiated In any part
under laws of a foreign country, it fol
lows that such contracts can ba entirely
repudiated, and such repudiation claims
would have to be enforced by the courts
in the United States.
Assessment Made Lien.
''This society, which- has assets of
about 130,000,000, recently readjusted by
levying a special assessment to make up
a total deficiency In reserve ot 825,000,000.
It Is now attempting to make this as
sessment a lien, averaging about ISM, to
bo deducted from the policies of the
members," explained Mr.. Ekern.
A memorandum signed by Rufus M,
Potts, superintendent ot .Insurance of
Illinois, W. B. Howard, auditor of Ne
braska nnd Mr. Ekern, is attached to the
report. It states that the attempted itfy ot
his ilen Is void and advises the members
of the society to take tho option of pay
ing assessments at the old, rata and to
Insist on settlement In full.
The memorandum declares tho plan of
readjustment Is ono that has been unl
foimly condemned by the courts. Vhlla
tho examination was in progress tha so
ciety gave notice of Its withdrawal from
Illinois, where it had 15,000 members, and
from Minnesota and Wlseonetp. where It
hart a total ot JO.OW members.
Ultimately the question must be decided
by the courts, the memorandum states.
