GOOD DEMAND FOR CASH GRAIN Foreign Barer nt Chicago Are Tak ing; Large Quantities of Cereal nnd Are alrlnglng Snppllea There Doirn Smaller. OMAHA. Dec. t, tU. The prospects arc for a bullish Bet of statistics n wheat today. World' ship, incnta are likely to De smaller than looked tor, with a good part destined tor tho continent, a further decrease In tha amount on passage and there Is a Pob Blbllity or there being verr little change In the visible suppl. There are some, however, who expect a small decrease. The condition of the growing plant In Michigan is good. Farmers there are marketing very little wheat. There Is still a big open Interest in the December future at Chicago, and aa the owners of the December are also In con trol of tho cash wheat there, their po sition Is a strong one, while the position of the bears Is anything but pleasant. The latter have only a short time In which to even up their position and there is a possibility of tholr having to bid up for the wheat wanted, as It Is impossible to secure the grain from tho country In tlmo for delivery on December contracts, mainly because ot the high views of hold- There Is likely to continue a good de mand for cash wheat at Chicago and else where. Foreigners are taking the Io. 2 hard winter here in good quantities, and tho stock of that grain Is d6wn to much smaller proportions. Conditions In wheat In .Argentina are likely to continue as one ot tho price makers. Tho news. from there Is quite conflicting, and some of the Items reflect the position ot tho sender of tho message. Tho crop of that country will doubtless be short ot last year, but tho best authorities there say that the wheat fields are bo scattered nnd many of them aro so far away that It la Impossible to say as to the acreage Beeded or tho probablo crop. .,, Tho big holders of corn In tho Chicago market are disposed to secure available profits and get out of the market tor the tlmo being. , These people realise the fact that manipulation Is put of the question, and that It Is better to take fair profits than to attempt to "Queeio the shorts and get themserves in trouble. Borne of the shorts are 'd ". tied privately with tho longs In em ber! as the movement has been almost Purely cSt5f & wet and unfavorable weather throughout tho belt. In Oklahoma and northern Texas, where wheat was reported Joint ing, and In Kansas and Nebraska, where the ground Is soaked. Stocks afloat on the lakes were respon sible In the main for the bulge In the vis ible supply total. A largo amount of grain has not been unloaded, congestion at Buffalo interfering. Predictions that the Canadian Import duty would bare moved soon after the assembling ot Par iinmont January 16. acted as an addi tional weight on prices late In tho session. Corn suffered a sharp break, owing to mM wather and a consequent enlarge ment of offerings from first hands. Some of the speculative bulls sold out and there was no support from shorts. Oat. proved relatively steady. The reason seemed to be that lake shipments from Canada had virtually sioppea. . , . The question raised is said, to affect every person holding a policy of any kind by an Insurance, company or an or ganization of a foreign country. Accord ing to Herman 1 Ekern, insurance com missioner of Wisconsin, lf.lt Is once rec ognized that contracts Issued In the state under a license to the Insurance company or society can be repudiated In any part under laws of a foreign country, it fol lows that such contracts can ba entirely repudiated, and such repudiation claims would have to be enforced by the courts in the United States. Assessment Made Lien. ''This society, which- has assets of about 130,000,000, recently readjusted by levying a special assessment to make up a total deficiency In reserve ot 825,000,000. It Is now attempting to make this as sessment a lien, averaging about ISM, to bo deducted from the policies of the members," explained Mr.. Ekern. A memorandum signed by Rufus M, Potts, superintendent ot .Insurance of Illinois, W. B. Howard, auditor of Ne braska nnd Mr. Ekern, is attached to the report. It states that the attempted itfy ot his ilen Is void and advises the members of the society to take tho option of pay ing assessments at the old, rata and to Insist on settlement In full. The memorandum declares tho plan of readjustment Is ono that has been unl foimly condemned by the courts. Vhlla tho examination was in progress tha so ciety gave notice of Its withdrawal from Illinois, where it had 15,000 members, and from Minnesota and Wlseonetp. where It hart a total ot JO.OW members. Ultimately the question must be decided by the courts, the memorandum states. Logan Man Drops Dead. LOOAN, la., Dec J.
