Former Fire and Police Commissioner
Joseph Plvonka was thrown from his rig
end painfully Injured last night at Twenty-second
street and Washington avenue.
The accident was due to a runaway, Dr.
John Koutsky was called and found, that
Plvonka had sustained a severe cut on
his face and several bruises. After hav
ing his wounds dressed Plvonka was
taken to his home. 153 South Twenty
third street. ,

Frank Johnson, the blind newsboy at
Twenty-fourth and N streets, and Will
iam Cook, the crippled popcorn man, say
that efforts are still being made to have
them removed from their, places of busi
ness. Johnson is well known and ad
mired for his sturdy endeavor to earn a
living notwithstanding his Infirmity. It
Is known that the city council will repeal

suddenly Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock
without any premonitory symptoms. Ho
was operated on without delay In order
to save hla life. Three doctors were In
attendance. His condition is reported as
encouraging.
Manual Tralnlnir Exhibit.
The manual training exhibit of the city
public schools which is offered on the
upper floor 01 tne tioneer xeiepnono
building at Twenty-fifth and N streets,
will close Saturday night.
The different departments of the work
are represented by separate exhibits. The
following exhibits are worthy of men
tion and commendation: Cablnot making,
drafting, domestic art; basketry, clay
modeling, wood carving, kindergarten,
art, penmanship and industrial geogra
phy. These fine exhibits show a great
deal of hard work and best efforts, both
on the part of Instructors and pupils. In
the drawing, clay' modeling and basketry
Is taught the corelated hand and eye
training, both as to color and design.

of what In being done in South Omaha
