MAY CORN HAS PRICE ADVANCE Corn Illaplnys Fair MrcnaMh In Fn tures, lint Traders Ilellcvp thnt tt Is II tie io Manipula tion br nulls. OMAHA, March 13, 1913. ihcre was the best part of lc upturn In May wheat yesterday. The gain In prices for the new crop months was lim ited to H-iTHc. It was not easy to under stand the buying force under the market It whs that tho general trade in the following bearish news of late be come considerably oversold. Frequently traders havo suggested ot late that such reactions must be expected. Early buying began on a ridiculous story of dust tonus in Kansas. On the early advance, Chicago bear leaders were active sellers, forcing a reaction of Hc at one time and lu ,Brett,Mt buying force developed in tho last half hour. One crop man In re porting from a Kansas point referred to the high winds of yesterday, but ho said the soil was too wet to cause any dust. The reportB frotri that quorter said whoat raisers are not at All anxious about tho crop. Regardless of this bearish news, tho Mny contrncts were congested all day. After touching S9Uc during the morning, there was a reaction to fftc, with many of tho early buyers selling out on the break. Possibly, the strength which de veloped In com the last hour encour aged froii buying of wheat. Minneapo lis had a run of 294 cars, and stocks In creased 300,000 bushels there so far this week, Tho late oxport business nt tho seaboard claimed Tuesday was practically denied yesterday. Thero was llttlo In dication of any cash or oxport business in Chicago until near the close, when sales were given out at 95,000 bushels. Including about 40,000 to export houses. Traders regard the advance as largely due to covering by shorts rather than any change In conditions and believe It will be difficult to hold the higher prices of the last hour. Cash wheat was unchanged. Thero woh nearly fcc advance In May corn and exactly He net gain In the late months on closing trades which wero the top for the day yesterday. Thero was a fair display of strength In corn futures during the morning, but It had the ap pearance ot being oncouraged, largely by bull leaders who were not buying much corn. Tho cash markets wore gen erally firm and higher all over the country. Cash corn was unchanged. Both May and July oats prices ad vanced to high points yesterday. Ship ping sales In Chicago were 230,000 bushels. Cash oats wero unchanged. Clearances on oats wero 10,000 bushels, on corn 1W.000 bushels, and wheat ana flour equal to 261.000 bushels. Liverpool close was 4d higher on wheat, and unchanged to Ud higher on corn. Speculators and shippers picked up a lo.v loads during the early rounds that were about steady with yesterday, but as com. pared with Wednesday their purchases were rather small. Advices from nil out side markets pointed to lower prices, so that when buyers raised their Offers to figures that were no more than weak to 6 cents lower, several loads thangetl hands on this bssls. Things went on In a rather druggy manner until about 10 o'clock, when buyers, seeing ihnt Ihoy would be unable to fill thofr orders at the prices they wero offering, started bidding about steady. This was what sellers had been working for. nnd they lost no tlmo In cutting Ioobc. so that by 10:30 practically ever 'thing nail been sold. Taken as a whole tho market can be quoted as being very nearly steady. The demand was good, and whllo Iho early trade was very slow, activity was a prominent feature of the close it was largely an 38.70 market, with a sprinkling both above nnd below, and a top price jf 38 80 was paid. Receipts amounted to about 157 cars, or 11.401" head, carrytng the total for the week up to 35,176.
