bait for those wbo would spy upon them.
Also, as you may see by glancing at the
third picture above, they have prepared
a mechanical device to surprise peckers.
IV BUMPED.
Just as Desmond Is congratulating him
self that he will soon be .able to get a
. good -view of Claude In tne clutches ,of
the police, the little surprise Is sprung
by one of the alert officials. The take
koorknob shoots out and gives the villain
a terrific crack In the eye, thus fitting
the punishment to the crime. Too late
Desmond gets wise.
V-TAKINO HIS CLOTHES.
Rosamond, who has been a. helpless
spectator of Desmond's actions, now sees
her opportunity to get the better of the
half-stunned villain. She hastens to bis
side and quickly takes Desmond's famous
hat, which he has worn in all the con
tinents snd most of the world's capitals.
Rosamond Intends to take the scoundrel's
coat also as a disguise.
