gram.) Th Kiwi and Rourkes had a
watfeat Vth. Topeka ball yard today. A
perfectly lovely time was enjoyed and the
score waa 10 ta against Omaha. Nearly
enough players to make three teams were

Buchanan waa going good until the
fotirth when Kane led off with a double.
Fchoonovtr tingled, Edmlston . hobbled
' Kneavea' grounder, Lynch picked a good
on and Robinson aent three acroee with a
double. lie and Lynch counted when Ed
mlston hobbled Agnew's trtounder.
.In the seventh there wan more trouble
after Kneaves fanned. Lynch singled, but
Robinson popped out. A Knew singled and
Klehoff walked and Thomason cleaned up
with a triple and Kane sent him horns with
a double,
. Two sharp double plays In the ninth and
tenth stopped threatened scores. Lynch got
' a finger smashed on one of Robinson's bad
ones In the seventh and Arbogaat finished
the Inning. Then Agnew caught and rick
went to third.
Demott had - hard tin., right off the
reel. In the second Gardner led off with a
triple and scooted home on Whitney's sin
gle. In the fourth, after two were down,
hits by Chapman, Edmlston, Buchanan and
Rickert and a walk to Emory scored three
and then Robinson came In. He went along
nicely for one session and Emory storted
It with a walk. Edmlston came along with
a blngle, as did Durbln. and then Rickert
' bunted to Agnew, who wasn't there, and
King cam along with a single that made
three for the session.
Edmlston got a single in the seventh,
want down on a wild pitch, on to third on
a , passed ball and scored on another wild
pitch.
In the eighth Beeoher took one In the
slats, and was pushed ahead by Gardner,
and scored when Agnew threw the ball to
center. In tha tenth King walked, and
- after Beecher was dead Gardner ended the
gams with a triple. Pick has a sore thigh.
Nlehoff was sick yesterday, but was all

a regular meeting of ths mayor and olty
council last night Mayor Mauck charged
that broken pip had been laid In th Blue
Springs to Wymor water main. Engineer
Meeker and Inspector Mahaffey, who had
th Job under supervision, say that this It
a mistake, that no broken plpet wer put
In. There hnve been four breaks In the
main under water pressure and Mr. Meeker
says this Is getting off reeamnably easy
In a main of that length over a mile. The
costs ot repairing the breaks has been less
than 100. At last night's meeting no de
cision was reached as to who shall be held
responsible for the bad pipe and who shall
pay for the repairs. The new eectrlo
pumps were run yesterday and the stand
pipe In this city was filled to overflowing
twice, so no more breaks are anticipated.
Engineer Meeker filed plans for trunk
Una and outlet for sewer. Under the plans
the whole city can be drained through one
pipe discharging Into the Blue river below
the city pumping plant. Mr. Meeker esti
mates the cost will not exceed llfl.500. No
action will be taken In this matter until
the sentiment of the public la sounded.
Edwin James has filed notice of appeal
from the action of the city In condemning
his land, on which the city's new wells
and pumps are located. A board of ap
praisers awsrded Mr. James a total ot
$100 for four and one-half acres of pasture
land. Mr. James had previously refused
11,700 offered by th city. Ht proposee to

crop report for. the season of lull , baaed
on reports from Its correniondentk through
out tha two states. The roixirt contends
that earlier reports concerning crop condi
tions in the Dakotas greatly exaggerated
tha drouth conditions prevalent In the two
states, snying: "Misleading reports re
garding the effects uf (he drouth and ex
cessive heat In portions of our territory
hav been widespread. Much damage hut
resulted, without a doubt, but through the
accuracy of our firsthand reports, direct
from farmers themselves, we are apprised
that conditions, even In our most dam
eged sections, are far from being as de
plorable as Is generally believed In the
east. Ths fact that the drouth was most
sever In sections where corn Is the prin
cipal crop Is a matter to be considered.
Over our greatest areas where wheat Is
the leading crop, conditions sre good.
