Warrants which were Issued for April will nnt be cashed until late net fall. The teachers will not be able to draw par until next fall, and probably not until the first of December. Asa result some of the school ma'ams art wondering where the nex meal Is coming from and what the prospects are for new positions. In order that the teachers trill nose nothing ( per cent Interest will bn paid on the warrants. The banks will not honor them and the storekeepers and merchants of South Omaha have not aocopted them. One man In Omaha has taken a few of the warrants from the teachers and Is holding thern for speculation. A couple of men In South Omaha have also taken a few, but ths majority of the teachers ara unable to get them cashed. Ths school situation In this city hns ben fn poor shape for the last six months. On month th Packers National bank took the checks from the teachers, on the word of ths city treasurer that they would be paid In the month of May. The next two months the checks were cashed by another bank. Again for a couple of months the bankers took the checks off the teachers' hands. But now the credit is exhausted and no arrangements have been made whereby the teachers csn draw any money. In speaking of the matter Georgia PackT. a teacher, said: "The teachers are very angry with the present state of affairs confronting them. In several cases some of the teachers are without money and what is more there is no place to set any unless we can get someone to give us credit for the warrants which we hold. "Of course the matter cannot be helped. but ws do. not think that we are to blame. No. 7111. was held Sunday night and the mat ter of city employes getting paid but once a' month was taken up. It was contended by several of the members that the city employes, especially those of the engineer ing department, be paid twice a month. At the present time the employes of the street deps rtn-.ent. excepting the street commissioner- are being paid every week. The street commissioner, George Johnson, Is a member of the labor union and Is In favnr of the rest of the employee In the city hall, Including the mayor, and other officials, being paid semi-monthly. The employes of the city clerk's office claim they have not the time to pay the employes oftener than once a month. The office help In the city clerk's department la no larger today than It was ten years ago and the number of employes of the city has Increased ten-fold and the extra work of getting out the pay every two weeks la beyond their power. A resolution was adopted at ths meet ing and a committee consisting of J. H. Pavts. John Lynn, Pat Ford, George John son and James Cunningham, appointed to take It before the mayor and city coun cil.
