W Total receipts ... J. 8 2 22 8 1 15 1 1 2 1 60 a the week receipts have b-en very liberal, showing a decided gain over a year ago. The market on beef sleem showed some little strength at the beginning of the week, but any Improvement that may have taken place was more than wiped out the middle of the week. Attain toward the close there whs a strengthening In values and at the finish prices are about where they were at the close of last week. It Is possible that the most desirable grades of handy, light cattle might be a trifle stronger, while heavy, plain cattle might be a little easier. A leading feature of the trade in cows and heifers has been the splendid demand throughout the week for good, fat heifers. Anything on that order has sold very freely and prices have shown more or less strength every day of the week. At the close they are generally a little higher than at the close of last week. On the other hand the medium kinds of cows and even pretty good old cows have not been any too active and they are at the best no more than steady with last week's close. Stockers and feeMers have been com manding very stiff prices, while the coun try has apparently been unwilling to bid up In the face of prevailing prices for fat stock. As a result the market on stock cattle and feeders has been very dull throughout the week and at the close prices sre around lo-ylfic lower. Some would quote medium and common kinds even lowet than that. Quotations on cattle: Good to choice beef steers. K0OS.25; fair to good beef steers, !5.75jf 00; common to fair beef steers, 14 75ii5 .76; good to choice cows and heifers. 14.7iau.75; fair to good cows and heifers. 14 4'Ka4.75; common to fair cows and heifers, 1.1.00(4.411; good to choice stock ers and feeders, 15.3fn80O; fair to good stockers and feeders, 15.00(05.35; common to fair stockers and feeders, 14 1035.00; stock heifers, 13.75-4.75. veal calves, H 0087. 60; bulls, stags, etc.. 13.7bdJ6.0u HOGS Ught receipts of hogs enabled sellers to obtain nickel higher prices for offerings of all weights this morning. The market had a good, healthy tone at ad vance from the start and clearance of bulk was made without much delay or diffi culty. Shippers supported the trade with orders that called for fully 20 per cent of the supply, and lively movement was at least partly due to better competition from this quarter. Packers' purchased approxi mated 3.200 head. Popular price for good butcher weights was 18.35, some little business being done at nickel margins on both sides of this figure. Heavies ranged at 18.30 and less, while lights sold at high levels, tops reach ing $t; 50. Tone to demand at the extreme close was rather weak and prices late showed no appreciable Improvement over those of yesterday. As viewed by bulk and top, today's values are Just about steady with trade a week ago. Range Is practically unchanged and usual preference for bacon animals Is still evident. Receipts during the week have been heavy. Keprc.-ematlve sales: IIIUAOO I.IVK KTOIK MAHKKT Demand for All Classes at flock la ateady. CHICAGO.
