May being at 31.069, and on July, 88H
98 Via The market was strong . early In
the day by a report of liberal sales o
flour over night at 8t. Louts, but this
report was later denied. A report from
Kansas City -claiming that millers were
active , bidders for sash wheat in Missouri

of foreign grata markets . was an add!
tlonal bullinh . Influence. Commission
iiohaes and local shorts were the prlncl
pal buyers throughout" the day and selling
was scattered.. -Clearances of wheat and
flour were euual to 952. 000 bushels.
The corn market was firm early in the
day. In the final hour there was an caster
tone. The -market closed easy, with prices
'hi60 lower, compared with the final
quotations of yesterday. May closed at
61Ho and July at 61tftle. Cash corn
was steady to o lower.

on the oats market the first half of the
day, but realising sales by some of the
leading forces caused moderate weakness
late In. the session, . The close was eajty,
with prices unchanged. to Ho lower, com
pared with the previous close. Pinal quo

mat advancing Interest rates will continue

large receipts again today the downward
movement was continued and values were
everywhere lower, with the trade slow and

advanced before buyers and sellers could
get together on a trading point and 11 was
afternoon before anything like a clearance
was errnrted.
The best beef steers were possibly not
verv much lower, but other grades were
weak with a lower tendency. The fact Is
the market yesterday and the day before
waa so uneven that It was not an easy
matter to make comoarlauns and hardly
any two salesmen were calling the market
the same.

grades as has been frequently noted of
late, have been slow and hard to sell
every day. the demand for that kind of
rattle belner extremely light.

This grand total exceeds by 1,841,6.11 the
total number of votes cast ln the presl-
dentlal election of 1904, when the grand total "
was 13,610,708.
Compared with that election, the candi
dates of the republican, democratic and so- .;
claltst parties . increased their vote this
year. The reverse Is true of the osndldates :
ot the prohibition, populist and socialist
labor parties. Tha Independence party did
not figure ln the presidential election, ot ..
four years ago.
The biggest difference In a tarty vote ;(
Is shown In an Increase tor Bryan of 1.316,211 -over
he total vols cast In 1904 tor Parker, j
Taft received 14,190 votes more than were "
polled for President Roosevelt In 1904 and
Debs ran 45,868 ahead of his predecessor on
the socialist ticket. (
Popnllets Show Henry Loss. "'
The heaviest loss Is shown by the poptt- "
lists, who, with the same candidate regis-
tered 83,190 votes less this year than In 1901,
when their total waa 117,183. The prohibl- y
tlonlst candidate, Chafln, ran 17,284 votes - J
behind the 1904 mark of his party, and Oil
ha us, the socialist-labor candldute, received.!
only about 60 per cent of tha vote given to 11
Corrlgan, which was 81,249 ln the presi
dential race. ' '
New Tork (870,070), Pennsylvania (745,779) ;
and Illinois (629,932) gave Taft the greatest'
number of votes among the states, while .'
as to Bryan, the order was New Tork
(667,468), Ohio (502,721) and Illinois (450,810)..
The votes cast tor Taft and Bryan were
almost Identical In number in two states, ?
namely, Maryland and Nevada. In tho first .'
mentioned Taft received 111.353 and Bryan '
111,117 and In the other 10,314 and 10,666, re-""
