Feature of the Tradlna: and Cloalnat
Price on Board of Trade,
CHICAGO, Feb. 10. Sharp declines In
wheat prices at the principal foreign grain
centers and a slump in stock had a weak
ening effect today on the local wheat
market, the May! delivery closing at a net
loss of 4u!o. Corn was a shade lower.
Oats were down fcC. Provision closed
6ft llV to 10c lower. I
'Pt,ivhMat mirlrl nronffd weak on nuit
general prutit-taklng, which was based on
declines in European markets and on 'the
-beaElsh character of the weekly statistics
. World' shipments were more than 600.UU0
bushels In excess of what had been estl
mated, and the amount on passage in
creased 8,5111.000 bushels. There waa a mild
rallv during the first hnn- due to cover-
ins bv ahortf. but the market fla n weak
ened about the mlduie t..e day and sen
timent continued bearish the remainder of
the aesslon. Th heavy tone of the New
York Block market had a depressing In
fluence late In the day. The close was
wsaki May opened lower at 90Vx4
9oKc, advanced to 97So and then declined
to 06Wa9t4. The close was at 9GVu9GV4c.
Clssrances of wheat and flour were equal
to 266,400 bushels. The visible supply In
creased 4,TB,000 bushels. Primary receipts
were 648,000 bushels, compared with 678,000
bushels the corresponding day a year ago,
Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported
receipts of CI cars, against 4u3 cars last
week and 481 a year ago,
Corn prices advanced about lo early. In
tha day, because ot entire covering" by
shorts, who were actuated by a forecast of
unsettled weather and by reports of dam
age by drought In the corn crop in Argen
tine. The market, however, lost all of the
gain In the last half of the aesslon and
closed easy. The break in wheat, the poor
shipping demand and prediction of a
more liberal movement were the weaken
ing Influences. May opened Viiii'Ho lower
at tUWatilH to Slc, Local receipt were
356 cars, with one car of contract grade.
Oats were weak almost all day on selllng
by cash houses. Demand for cash oats was
very slack, and numerous reports Indicated
an Increase in the movement. May opened
(frc lower at 6fu63Vc, advanced to 543
and then declined to MVfcc. The close waa
at 634c. Local receipts wera 153 car.
Provisions were weak under considerable
selling pressure from local packers early
In the day, because of enormous receipts
of live hogs. The run in Chicago reached
tit record-breaking figure of ttu,0UO bead.
Prli-es made some recovery during the last
half of the seelon, owing to buying by
shorts, but th market closed easy. The

this reason prices were fairly well sustained.
In fact on all desirable fleshy steers at

CATTLE The week started out with a
very moderate run of cattle and the quality
showed some Improvement over last week.
Reports from eastern markets were ex
tremely bearish and although the de
mand appeared to be good from both local
packers and eastern buyers, bids were gen
erally all of loj 25c lower than at the close
of last week and business was extremely
dull at the decline. Handy-weight beeves
were the best sellers, while the good, heavy
cattle did not meet with much favor from
any source and It waa well along toward
noon before any great amount of trading
was done.
The market for cows and heifers was
fully as much off as the fat cattle trade,
and although the demand was fair, all
classes of buyers Insisted upon lower
figures and the bulk of the trading was
done on the basis of a lOUic decline. Veal
calves were In limited supply and demand
and quotably unchanged. The market for
bulls, stags, etc., was dull and unevenly
lower.
Fresh supplies of stockera and feeders

erate number of sheep and lambs on sulu.
Chicago reported tho market there as
much as luojlCa lower, and slow at tho
decline, and this had a tendency to weaken
the trade hero. Right desirable mutton
grades sold fairly steady as a rule, but
anything undeslrahle was usually quoted
10c lower than last week.
Among the offerings wero some ewe!
which brought $485; some broken fleeced
lambs, $6.40, and heavy yearlings, $6.00,
more or less satisfactory prices.
There was not much offered In the
feeder division, but the few here Bold at
current figures, with the demand about
equal to the supply. Tho general trend of
the market, however, la toward a lower
level on anything except the best kinds.
