Nignt.
The Rome hotel was the scene of a gay
social function last evening when Rome
Miller threw his big new hostelery open for
the Inspection of more than 1,000 Invited
guests. The guests were given the freedom
of the building from cellar to roof and
from, kitchen to ball . room. The people
began coming at t o'clock ad from that time
until a lata hour the human stream con
tinued to flow.
The receiving line was formed In the
broad and high eelled promenade leading
from the lobby to the main dining room.
This was profusely decorated with ferns
and other greenery, potted plants and
bouquets of cut flowers presented to Mr.'
Miller on this occasion. A great horseshoe
executed tn flowers of the horse show col
ors occupied .a prominent position on a
bank of green. Ribbons and draplngs of
ths horse show colors were In evidence
everywhere. In - the receiving line were
Mr. and Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Klerstead and
Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Waggoner. C. M.
Wllhelm presented the guests to the hosts.
Punch bow is were distributed at points
of vantage. Fifty waiters served the
guests. The bell boys were resplendent
in their nevj uniforms
The entire house was brilliantly lighted
up In every department. - The elegant dining
room and cafe proved an especial attrac
tion to the visitors and on the floor of the
ball room, which Is one of the finest In the
west, there was dancing all tfvenlng. I Sev
eral of the finest rooms and suites of rooms
In the building were open for Inspection.
The kitchen with all Its modern machinery
for the speedy and cleanly conducting of
the culinary operations of a great estab
lishment was a place which attracted many.
Ths most unique thing in the hotel Is the
"vineyard." This Is located In the base
ment. It is a sort of cross between a
rathkeller and a Flemish cafe. The ap
proach to It Is beneath low monastic arches
seemingly of solid stone. There a fountain
plays and a heavy oakon door In the wall
gives promise of ths wine vaults beyond.
The 'Vineyard' proper Is a long room ar-rang-Ml
to represent a grape arbor. There
Is a trellis overhead from which hang
clusters of grapes and the vines and leaves
are visible on ths lattice work at the sides.
There are many cosy nooks and corners In
the place and the side walls are painted tn
soft, restful tints. Over all Is shed a dim,
crepuscular light.
The commute In charge of the reception
consisted of the following: Q. W. Wattles.
F. E. Kirkendall, Charles II. Pickens, C. M.
Wllhelm, Arthur C. Smith. Frank W. Jud
sen, John C. Wharton, Clement Chase, N.
P. Dodge, jr.. William Kierstead, John L.
Kennedy and C. F. McGrew.

cing was: E. I. Cu daliy, Lee McShane,
