The slate Into which the npeculntlve

especially the wild move of yenterday.
caused aotne perturbation and aroused a
fear that they were of a kind which would
run ouickly to diminution, owing to the
violence of the manipulative method pur
sued. Very attractive profits also were
offered at many points In the market. The
consequence was that the selling move

A bad effect upon sentiment waa produced

the enormous demand for I'nlon Pacific

CATTLE There wa a very light run of
cattle today, only 100 cr with a total of
2.500 head being received up to noon. The
four day- supnlv foot up 18.7n8 bead,
which la about 000 head nmuller than the
receipt for the first four day of laat
week and is also considerable less thn the
run for the corresponding four day of the
week one year aro. A a general rule the
quality of the offering was rather on th
Inferior order. Then. too. trln were late
gain and at 10 o'clock a third of the stock
was mill out.
There were no beef teer of any cone
nuence on ale today, while the demand
from dressed beef men wa very good and
prt'-es were generally very well sustained.
There was practically no native-fed stock
on the market and fliere were only a few
loads of short-fed or warmed-up cattle In
sight. The most of the stuff received wa
ranee cattle and It waa mostlv of rather
Inferior quality. However, the demand
made by the buyer wa active and good
choice stock found readv sale at price
that were generally eteudy lo strong.
The supplv of oows and heifers wa
rather limited and deirnbe tock met with
readv sal at price that wer In most
rane steady to a little atrong. There wa
good demand for the better kind of cattle
and that cla found readv sale at atrong
price, whit the common and medium
grade went at tead price.
There was reanonable active trade on
stoekere and feedera and orlces continue
to hold steadv and strong for all offering
of good quality. The run of feeder today
wa small, nur tne nemanu waa tiv
both by countrv buyer arid yard specu
latora. As haa been the ease lately rough
heavv grade went largely to the killer,
hut the good lightweight grade and vear
linga found ready sale at steady to strong
price. Representative sale

SHEEP Theie were only iwenly-seveu
cat reported In this morning Receipt for
the four dav foot up to to.iirti head, which
Is about 7,000 short of arrivals for the first
four day of last week. Not many largo
runs of sheep are expected for a while
now, a the season for range sheep i
practically over and It Is an yet a lit 11 too
early for much fed stock to come In.
Today's limited offerings were made up
mostly of feeder sheep, with a small run
of ft stuff. There was a reasonably good
demand for fat tock on the part of the
local packers, n tljey were apparently
looking for some good choice stun suitable
for their purposes, with which lo supply
their local trade. Rut there wan very little
choice stock In. and as the result the mar
ket was slow and dull, but what little fat
kind of sheep was In sight sold readily (it
prices that were generally steady to a little
strontf In spot.
The receipt of feeder sheep were mod
erate, but the arrival were, generally
speaking, not of the best quality, being
rather on the Inferior order except for 11
few pretty choice bundle. There wan
quite a supply of feeder lamb on sale to
day and some of them looked pretty nice
and found sale at prices that were lust
about steady with yesterday's market.
Trade waa dull and uninteresting, with the
market slow and generally stendy.
