CATTLE Receipts of cattle were more
liberal this morning than generally antici
pated in view of the extreme cold weather.
The demand, I hit ugh, from local packers
seemed to lie In fairly good conuitlon, and
as a result the market held fully steady on
anything at all desirable. Trains were very
low in arriving and that dauayed the mar
ket In bad shape and mads trading appear
dull.
About the usual proportion of the offer
ings consisted of corn-led atewa and tl'i
market could not be jjuotsd 4LHlhUig but
generally steady. The quality ot the offer
ings was not very good, most of tho cattle
being only of common to fair cattle, wli.h
only a few that could be called even good.
Buyers, though, took the early arrivals In
good bhupe, so that an early clearance was
maoe. Trains kept arriving must all day,
so that the market did nut come to a cloe
until a late hour.
The cow market waa fairly active and
Cenerally steady. If anything the good to
choice kinds sold a little stronger as the
demand foi that class seemed to be quite
ltlieral. while there were not very many of
them on sale. Common to medium grades
were rather slow, but still they commauded
just about steady prices.
Bulls, via' calves and stags sold so near
In yesterday's notches that there is no
uuotable change.
There waa quite a spnnauing o stocaers
and feeders in the yards, and as Indica
tions were considered favorable for warmer
weather speculators took hold quite freely
of the belter grades and paid steady prices
fur them. The common kinds were rather
quiet, but still they sold about steady in
moBt cases. Representative sales:

HCtOB Receipts of hrnrs ware quite liberal
this morning and the market at this point
started out about steady, but packers were
slow to bid the prices It waa evident from
the beginning that they were Inclined to
bear the market, and after they had picked
out a few of the good loads they began
bidding hfTlOo lower. As salesmen all
wanted steady prices trading was rery slow
and It was late before anything line a clear
ance was made. The fact that trains were
late In arriving also delayed the market.
The early sales were In about the same
notches as yeanerday Mixed hogs sold
largely from 4 45 to 4.0. good heavy bogs

8 H EE P There ai as lust a fair run of
sheep in sight this morning, hut there tras
not the snap and tone that characterised
the trade yesterday, it seems that the
mutton market in the east is not as good
as It might be and for that reason packers
are not at lilieral huvers as thrv would be
otherwise. They took hold fairly well this
morning, however, and the more desirable
grades sold mlthout much trouble at good
steady prices. Borne heavy wether sold as
high as I4.6U. which Is aa much as they
would have brought at any time. Ewes
told for 94 and yearlings to. When It came
to the commoner" klnda, however, the mar
ket waa slow and salesmen In some cases
found It hard to get steady prices with yes
terday's best time. It Is safe to say,
though, that the market Is back to where it
was before the break of laen week.
A few feeders arrive on the market every
flay and lell at right around steady vf0".
The extreme cold weather this waek, bow
ever, has delayed dipping so that the feeder
trade has not as much snap as It would It
the weather were more moderate.
