victim, it was all In vain, for William
Klein, alius Rhea, expiated with his life at

Zahn at Snyder, now nearly two years
ago. A little over an additional nour oi
life waa all that the legal combat availed
tha man in whose behalf it waa conducted.
The execution had originally been fixed for
high noon, but it was 1:20 when. Intelligence
having been received finally that Judge Sul

lawyers were contending, the Judgment of
the court wu cariitj out.
Rhea met his fate with a manifestation
of nerve that in no way resembled bravado,
but which seemed none tha less Imperturb

was an elaborate dinner, with numerous
side dishes, and topped off with a generous
slice of pie. When It waa passed In to him
he partook of It with aa much seeming
relish as If ha had no unpleasant anticipa

Throughout the hours of waiting tha ex

the telephone brought frequent advices of
the progress of events at the capltol. When
at about 1:15 tbe visitors wers admitted to
tha new cell house, It waa manifest that
all hope was gone for a respite or reprieve.
The black scaffold upon which Nelgenflnd,
George Morgan and others had paid the
penalty of the murderers' crime, was
erected In the center of the big apartment,
which waa otherwise unequipped with
prison furnishings. Its only additional
equipment .was a new rope. There were
six electric buttons for George Stryker and
his assistants to touch.

Prior to the commission of the murder
Rhea had led the life of an outlaw. He
