stocks made advances today and some of
them were of material proportions , Vari
ous reasons might bo nHslfrned for the
movement In Individual stocks , but the
principal motive for the g-eneral rise , ap
parently , was that the steady advance of
prices of late had aroused the ouuJdp pub
lic to buy. The dealings reached nearly
1,250,000 shares.
Aggressive bull manipulation by the lead
ers of speculation had seemingly caused
the public to coasc waiting for an Im
mediate opportunity to secure slocks nt n
lower level. The market opened under an
Impetus of higher quotation.- ! from London
and though larger realizations on profits
was -apparent from time tb time the ad
vance continued , pretty steadily until near
this clo'e , when the rnte for cnll money
reached C per cent , leaving the range for
the day from 4 to fl per cent , with the Inst
.oan at 5 per cent. A number of higher-
priced records for stocks were made today.
The strength displayed on Saturday brought
a largo number of commission house orders
to purchase stock. This caused n pro
nounced rine at the opening and Induced the
elimination of many short contracts. The

L. F. Dnthezor died Intestate at San Jose.

ladles of Worcester are the heirs and that
