last week. Monday evening It gave a grand
ball and cake walk which was attended by

Banner ledge gave a masquerade ball
Thursday evening < whlch was well attended
and furnished more amusement than was
anticipated. The costumes vvero well and
tastefully arranged and but few of the
participants vvero known before the masks
were removed. A cake \\alk was one of the
features of the evening. Thursday evening
the lodge will vote upon a number of new
applicants and Install the newly elected
oUlcera.
Benson lodge Installed officers Monday
evening last. This lodge has good prospects
for building up a large membership during
the winter.
Nehanka lodge added fifteen new mem
bers to Its roster at Its last meeting.
Union lodge voted upon twenty applica
tions and Initiated sixteen last week. After
wards refreshments were served.
Springfield lodge is 'reviving and will
add a fewr new members during the winter.
Ten members vvero reinstated within the
laet thrco weeks.
Hubbard ledge held an Interesting meet
ing Wednesday evening which was attended
by thirty-eight members. The lodge now
has a membership of sixty-five and Is still
growing.
Myrtle hall was the scene of a grand mas
querade ball given by Banner lodge
No. 11 Thursday evening January in.
The 200 dancers In bizarre and grotesque
costumes whirling to the music of the or
chestra presented a pretty spectacle. Every
nation and all the familiar characters In
history and romance w ere represented. There
were pretty girls as Spanish senorltas ,
wearing gonna trimmed -with bells and
bangles , Cossack maidens In furs Imper
sonating the peasants of the steppes of Hua-
ela , Topslea In dresses of sackcloth and
multi-colored calico , and Dutch girls with
the wooden oboes , caps and aprons peculiar
to the fashions of Holland. Ibe men wore
costumes not less picturesque. Among the
more unique were matadors , Indian braves ,
princes , an Uncle Sara , John Bull and negro
comedians. At 11 o'clock there was a
cake walk. The contestants were- Jessie
Saw hill and Frank Wood , Uena Branden-
berger nnd A. J. StorlcXer , Lizzie Wilson
land Thomas Crawford. Miss Sawhlll and
I llr. Wood -were Judges of the winners.
After this event the dancers unmnked nnd
the KCKH ! times continual until midnight.

The dream of George M. Pullman's life haa
been shattered. The fenccd-In model town
of Pullman Is to become a free community.
The anomaly of a city within a city Is at
an end.
The Pullman Palace Car company has ac
cepted the decision of the supreme court of
Illinois , sustaining the contention of At
torney General Maurice T. Moloney. Tha
Pullman company has Instructed Its at
torney to close the ault. The terms of the
decree are now being prepared. The decrca
will divorce the great corporation from
everything save the business for which It
was Incorporated.
Thus will end as a feudal Institution ths
town of Pullman. Its churches and schools ,
Its hotel , 1U ) magnificent arcade hall , the
market house , public library and 2,000 brick
residences will bo sold to the highest bidders.
The Pullman Iron and Steel company will
be reorganized. The brick works will pasi
from the control of the company. Th
streets of Pulman will be given over to thd
authorities of the city of Chicago and the
water works also will pass Into the con
trol of thu city. Pullman will cease to bo
a hedgcd-ln municipality. Ita property will
no longer figure on the assessors' books a *
