NEW YOHK. Aug. 26. The dry goods market
Is active with many : buyers present In liotb
the first hand aitd Jobbing murkettt. The tone
was llrm on all cotton lines , several advances
having been announced In the last twenty-four
hours. Sellers arc- less willing to deviate from
newly established prices and as buyers , after
some parley , generally1 take goods , the condi
tions aie quite satisfactory nnd hopeful. The
export demand shows a slight Increase In spite
of an advancing 'market. This Is considered u
good feature. Woolen goods of all sorts are
doing well. Staple cottons are llrm nnd selling
freely. Fruit of tbe Loom , 4-4 and 7-8 , bleached ,
are again nt value. This Is not surprising as
the price has been belqw that of L-msdalc since
the recent advances nnd a general adjustment
was deemed Inevitable from the llrst. Coarse
colored cottons are. well sustained nnd strong
at the recent advance In all grades. Print
cloths have registered another advance , 211-lCc
being paid for abuut 12,000 pieces extras , October
and November delivery' late yesterday morning.
The market today. Is very strong with bids scarce
at the'advance. . Odd ' goods arcalso' very tlrm.
Sales have been fairly active this week. Prints
arc ngaln firm nnd subject * to adancen In some
staple lines. Advances In garner staples have
already token place. Turkey reds are particu
larly' strong. Amoskeag staple nnd fnncy ging
hams have been advanced i.e. per yard.

GAlThE We had 141 cars , against eighty
six last Thursday , but thlrty-olglit were con
slgne/d direct to ptaushterers , so that o
the 3,726 cattle here only about 2.SOO wer
on sale. Western cattle were plentiful , wit !
feeding1 grades predominating largely , bu
there was also a fair display of fed stock
part of which wns very good. Eastern mar
kets were reported as dull , but there % va
litt'o sign of any weakness here and th
trade was generally active.
There were fewer beeves' In sight than
yesterday and the demand was urgent , will
local dressed beef men the only buyers
prices being too atlff for shippers. Hece'pt
included a ll"e-lond string of good cattle
bought In the country by n killer at $5
and the offerings were general'.y sold on
early nt good llrm prices' , with the pretU
decent lots around $ l.50fi4.90 and others rang
Ing down as the quality decreased. Killer
again got pome westerns and paid full ; ,
sttady prices , but the feeding demand stll
held fnl ! sway nnd most of the crasser
were bought to turn baik to the country.
Steady , with beat sales a little higher , de
scribed the cot.v p.nd heifer market nnd I
did not take long to clean up the twentj
loads on sale. Hulls Fold as we'.l as an >
time lately nnd veal calves were In cooi
request.
There was flip same excitement In tin
feeder division which has been n feature fo
some time nnd where different from yester
day price * were stronger. There wns np
parenty no limit to the country demand
and speculators , who were well cleaned up
yesterday , were corespondlngly active. Hep
resentatlve sales :
