0 THE OMAHA DAILY 1 gl3 ; WEDKFSDAY , JANUARY 0 , 185)7 ) COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Wheat Declines Another Notch and Reaches Last Year's ' Closing Price. CORN CLOSES STEADY AND UNCHANGED Bonn- Activity IN .Slioivn In Ontx , tin ThlH GVri-nl KliiPluntfN ltli \V In-lit I'mvlxloMH Hall Until I.utf. CHICAGO , Jnn. B. Wlicnt lost Ho today nntl now stands exactly where It Old nt tlic end of the yenr. Weak foreign mnrkotfi nnil n renewal of the Belling characteristic of yesterday's session were tlio factors. Other markets were dull nnd without note worthy change In vnluc. In wheat the bearish feeling , created yesterday by the dumping on a narrow market of some I.OCOOOO or B.OCO.OOO bu. of long wheat , was still perceptible at the opening. May opened nl from SSTtc to Sic , or about where It left oft yesterday , and lifter nn hour's trading on a rather limited amount of business May got down to SSVfrc. Tlio preponderance of news was bullish. Jlverpool was only Vi to ' ,41 ! lower nt the opening or from ' /c to Ic per cental decline us compared wild the Ic per bu. drop hero yesterday. llccelpts nt Chicago -were 87 cars against ICO cars on the similar day of the yenr before. Minneapolis nnd Diiluth received 149 carloads compared with 3H a year ago nnd 414 on the corresponding day of the year before. The great falling off In northwestern receipts- were ascribed to thu blizzard which had been raging In that region for two days. Thoman's report rlalmrd that the stocks of wheat In fanner's hands nnd In ttio visible are now ra.ao.ooo bu. less than nt this time last ycir : ami that should wu export for the next Fix inonthii only the same as we did the same six months last year , we will then have only M.OOO.OOO bu. left In both the visible nnd the Invisible * supply. Hut It was hard to get up any Interest In the tradu and there w.-t.s lack of confidence nnd a dis position to got rid of long stuff , especially after the weak closing European quotations were posted. TOe price got as low as Wtc before It was allowed to recover Itself from the constant pounding It had been sub jected to nil morning. At 12 o'clock , when llradstreel's world's visible- supply state ment was due , the price had recovered to Mifc. The publication of the visible in question did not help It , the decrease In stocks ! being only 9G. > ,000 bu. New York nvorled between 33 and 40 boatloads of wheat sold there for export today and late yesterday , which helped to slcady the mar- Kct and at the close the price of May had r < covered to EHJc to S.Thc. Corn was not quite so much Influenced by the weakness of wheat today as It was yesterday. Ixjcnl receipts were only 1&9 cars and seaboard clearances were heavy , amounting to R4.J03 bu. , both of which facts tended to surtnln prices. Trade was very small and fluctuations nearlv nil narrow. Way opened unchanged nt 25c , sold be tween 2o and 25lc nnd 23c and Zo'/Jc , closing steady nt the opening price. Trading In oats -was a trllle more active than In corn , but was almost entirely de pendent on wheat for the feeling displayed. Hales were made In exchange from January to May at 3Uo difference. Uradstrcet's showed a decrease of 202,000 In the visible , but It had no effect on the market. May opened \fc \ lower at lOc , declined to 19V c nnd closed at 19c. Provisions were dull until near the end of the session , when n little life was In fused Into the trading by some buying by packers. The trade was so small fint it took very little buying to advance prices the notch or two they wound up with. At the close May pork was Be higher at J785. May lard unchanged at $3.9714. May ribs 2l4c higher at f4. Estimated receipts for Wednesday : Wheat 17 cars ; corn , IDS carp ; oats , 110 cars : hogs , 30.000 head. The lending futures ranged ns follows : Article H.
