Nearly all of the 350 teachers of the city schools , were present at the lcaehers ' meet- Ing In the city hall yesterday afternoon. The prIncipal part of the lime was _ occupied by Superintendent Marble , who 'related his , experience at tlie' recent convention ot the superintendence branch of the National Edu- oltlonal association at Cleveland Dr Mar- bIo prefaced his remarks by n little advice to the teachers along general lines. He discussed the attItude which thc teacher ! should occupy toward a pupil who wa ! ! , Insubordinate - subordinate , which In his opInion should be as Cur removed from lackadaisical sentlmen- lnlity as from cold and unfeeling severity. He declared that unremitting cheerfulness should be ono of the characteristics of every teacher. It was only by maintaining a cheery and pleasant exterior that she could do the best oC which shE ! was capable. It was sometimes difficult for a te3cher nol to bo disturbed by the trials and exaspera- tlens incident to the school work , but she should think of how much better she teas ort than she mIght be and be happy. In speaking of the meeting at Cleveland Dr. Marble ! \ said that these meetings and discussions - Cllsslons among teachers had an Important part In modern educational work , They found Inspiration III co-operation and a spur to 10Ctlet alms. Each ' . : te'1cher was strengthened ened by contributing hIs share , however small , to the general fund ot information and experience.
