THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : WEDNESDAY , OCTOBER 10 , 1894 , COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Markets Wore All Moderately Inclined to the Bear Side. ALL THE LINES WERE SOMEWHAT SLOW Corn Acted In Sympathy with Wheat ninl Tlinucli the llccclpln Here Considerably Urnrlcr Thau Kfillm.-itcd Thor Wore Not Unitiunlly Jlcnvjr , CHICAGO , Oct. 9. The markets -were nil moderately Inclined to the bear side today. Wheat , coin , oats and provisions suffered from a tired fecllnff nrul were oytiipatlilzlnit With whnt was said to be a forecast of to morrow's government report and rumors concerning the condition of the czar of Itussla , The crop report , according to the alleged forecast , la to be bearish , The czar's death , which was npprchendcd , was considered bullish. Wheat Icrt "te only , but corn suffered to the extent cJ % c for October nnd tye for May ; oats closed % c lower and provisions at slight declines. The JlscouraKcment of yesterday's In crease of 2,200,000 bu , In the visible supply wins still workli E on the ciowd ( hit n owirg. For over hnlf an hour the rnurket waB very weak. It was about steady for ten tnlnutca at yesterday's decline , but nfter that and for about thirty minutes It be came Very weak. December , which closed yesterday at 63ftc , opened at that this morn ing and touched W'lic for un Instant ; then worked gradually down to 535 c , and then fell rapidly to We , which latter price It reached about 1:10 : a. m. May was raided on n. spread of t > Vic. The northwestern re ceipts were DRaln heavy , DM cars bcltiK re ported at Minneapolis and Duluth. Hero the Inspection showed 118 carloads. The foreign wheat markets were tiuoted easier nt the opening. The Raltlc , Black sea tind other competing cxportlnK countries , ex- cluslvo of India , shipped 2,680,001 bu , of wheat and ( lour last week. Including 3,215- 000 bu. from the United Status nnd Canada , C.H9.000 bu. were put alloat last week. The liberal northwestern receipts and the weak tone of the cables were the matters which , alonR with the still Browlns visible nupply , caused the easiness nt the opening. J ater , It was reported that the government statement tomorrow would state the yields ofwheat per acre at such a rate as would Increase the olllclal Indication of the total crop -IGO.WO.OO bu. , or about 50,000,000 bu. more than It had previously s invested. 'lat rumor was nald to be the reason for the Increased pressure which broke December to S3Vic , the flint time It got there. It recovered tn from Ktc to 0314c , declined again to 53Jic , with a pale of a smnll lot at from IHVic to KP.ic , and had reacted to CSV c , which was bid when Hradstreot'H visible supply statement struck the market and knocked a small chip off It. It sold off to from Ki'/ic to 53-TsC at the time referred to. Crndstreet'B gives an Increase of 3,369,000 DU. cast of the Rockies , 781,000 bu , Increase on the Pacific side and an Increase of 232,000 bu. afloat for and In Europe , Humors con cerning the czar of HusKla were numerous during the session and near the close It was spread about that ho was dead. There was a disinclination among the crowd to remain short over night and some coverIngs - Ings near the close resulted In advancing the price of December to D3U < 3 , at which It closed , Mny resting at OSUc bid. Corn acted In sympathy with wheat. The receipts were considerably heavier thnn estimated , but were far from being heavy. The estimates yesterday were 95 cars and 128 cars were Inspected. Kstlmated receipts for tomorrow are 100 cars. The govern ment report. It was said , would glvo the conditions so much better than on the month previous that It would Indicate 103,000,000 bu. more than It did then In the total yield , A little business was done In the new No. S to arrive In December at M c under the May price and In No , 3 yellow at Co under , business wus active , with a general down ward tendency up to the middle of the day , and a , slightly reactionary tendency after that. liny opened from GO'ic to & 0c , against r > 0nc to Clc at the close yesterday. It fluctuated around GO'.fec ' to 5Qc unil thin dropped to Me , when wheat was at the weak point. Toward the end It was back to C0c. The price hardened In the last few minutes and closed at 50' ' , c for May and file , for October. Oats was active throughout the entire session and , tnllucncrd by the easiness In corn , also was quite weak. Considerable long stuff was offered for sale nnd that , with a lower cash market , created a good Bluiie of the heaviness. Quite a big business was transacted. Orders were fairly good all day and Hellers were numerous. The slocks of contract oaln In store showed an Increase of 42,000,000 bu , on last week and may have hail something- < ln In the bears favor. May started at 33-Jc and sold down to 33c , closing nt SiliC. The receipts of hogs were only 12.000 head , but the provision ! ) market did not recelVB any beiiellt from the Bmnllncss of the run. The weakness of the grain trarkets caused a sympathetic feeling In the hog products' . There were some half smothered Indications of a desire to unload come long stuff had the market been broadened , but as it looked unable to absorb much , without breaking badly the offerings were tempered to the capacity of the markets. Hog receipts for tomorrow aru estimated at Ctoo ; head. January deliveries ut the close showed th following losses since yesterday : Pork , 7Vic ; lard. Be , and ribs , " 'Ac. Natives of good to extra quality were in scanty Hupply and again showed firmness ; oilier dencrlptlons were slow at Monday's quotations. There was n good inquiry for etpckcrs and feeders and many sales were reported wltliln a range of from 12 to (3.60. .Sales of native cattle were on a basis of from $1 to $6.20 , while westerns were quoted at from 11.60 to 14.60. and Texuns at from 11.25 to (3,25. Receipts since Saturday were 6,000 head K-fcS than for the same time last week. Tha hoif market was quite uneventful. The average was higher than for Monday , about a nickel higher , but a good mimy hogs changed hands at not better than steady figures. The receipts did not nearly come up to expectations , barely reaching 13,000 head , a against more than 21,000 a week ago. As a consequence there was more confidence on all sides and buying wae BO free that nlmont the entlru 17,000 head offered hud tM"cn picked up before 11 o'clock. Hales were at from JJ.65 to Si.DO , not many below $4.75. nnd still fewer at (3.30 , the prevailing prices being- from tl.90 to (5.30. Thu close was firm. Today's receipts of sheep weie estimated at 17.COO head , which would make a total far the last two days of 42.COO head. Only once before were as many received in the ipacs of forty- eight hours. That was during October It and 17 last year , when 40,990 head were unloaded. There was a dull and very weak market for poor and common sheep and lambs , but good to bent quali ties commanded steady prices. Quotations had un extreme range of from 73c to 13.50 for sheep and from $1.50 to (1.30 for lambs. The farmer sold principally at from (1.7S to 2.75 , and from (3 to (1 bought most of the latter.
