'CHICAGO PHODUOIS MARKETS.
CHICAGO , Juno 10. ISpocial Telegram to
Tun BEE.I The wheat market opened J o
to Jfo lower on the seemingly general rains
throughout Minnesota nnd Dakota , and on
clearing up weather In the southwest. 'Ihero
Is atlll too much rnln m the winter section , but
the Indications nro propitious , and the near
future should bring relief In the ahapo of n
cessation of the storm , The weather map
wns qulto bearish , nnd It the popular ex
pression had been realized , prices would
linvo had Important breaks ; as It was , the
prices ruling around the opening of trade
wcro the lowest of the day , nnd the nvorago
tone of the market was qulto firm nud
steady , at some recovery from the inside
figures. This scorned to bo duo , in n great
measure , to the prevalent belief that the
Northwestern rains came lee late to repair
the dnmago resulting from the drouth , to
the firmness In the cash markets cast
nnd west , nnd to the advance In
Liverpool , consequent upon diminishing
India shipments , and the further confirma
tion of the reports of damage to the Russian
crops. The speculative sentiment was bear
ish to quite n degree , but the market was
hold steady by causes and Influences beyond
speculative control. Only n small amount of
now business was reported bv Now York ,
'but the out inspection , there , for two days
was 220,000 bushels. The export clearances
were only about ono-third that quantity ,
showing that there is n tjood local eastern
demand. The shipping returns show that
there is n good milling movement from all
points of accumulation , whllo the receipts
emphasize the fact that the country reserves
nro down to the very lowest ebb. As an off
set to the statistics tending to show a rapid
reduction of the visible slocks , dispatches
were afloat about the now wheat arrivals nt
southern points. St. Louis advised that 5
cars of now wheat had boon sold , to arrive
y there this week , prioo 75c. Baltimore wired
> that 200 bushels of now wheat had actually
*
" boon received there. Theno nro insignifi
cant itoma iu themselves , but they
bring the fact forward that the new-
crop movement is soon to begin. This move
ment is not likely to bo any earlier than
usual , or for that matter qulto as early , but
It is probable that Chicago will get moro
than the percentage of late years. The
Atchison has elevators hero und a road extending -
tending right into the early harvest fields.
The Important news of the day is compressed
Into the foregoing statements , The first
* sales in this morning's market were on a
I basis of 77 c for July , 74c for September ,
nnd 70) c for December , July sold as low as
77 ? < ; c , September as low us 74 c , and December
comber ns low as 7G.J c. The market crad *
uully firmed up under the influence of good
buying by Hutchinsou and others. July ad
vanced to 78) c , and December to 70 > c. At
nnd nbovo 78c for July , Hutohlnson fed the
crowd all the wheat it would take , and on
the little breaks ho was n liberal buyer. The
tendency of bis operations wns to narrow
the market. The operations in the pit wore
on rather restricted scales. In the absnnce
of strongly bullish news New York developed
oped an undertone of weakness toward the
last of the session. No great pressure was
necessary to put prices down fractionally.
After hanging , for n long whllo , around
77J c for July , and 70 > @ 7G o for Deeern
bor , the market yielded , July
going to 77 } c. nud December to
YOJ c , which was the closing price.
Juno left oft at SOc , and September ut 75c.
AB compared with yesterday's last quota
tions the figures show an nvorago decline of
Jffo to ifc on all months excepting July ,
which lost } { c to % u. As far as possible the
manipulation in July seems to bo dying out.
Trade is getting out of July into the later
deliveries nnd short whcut was vastly re
duced on the advance to SOo.
The corn market opened with n weaker
tone in view of important changes In local
weather and the clearing weather reported
from the southwest , where heavy rains have
been almost continuous for the past ten days.
The weakness was of short duration , how
ever , ns reports soon begau to circulate of
fields covered with water m southern Illi
nois. Later , this news was supplemented by
diminishing receipts hero , the estimated in
spection returns for to-morrow being placed
nt 280 cars. The shipping demand was also
nctivo and ut higher prices , and the foreign
markets were firmer. There wns n fair
amount of business ut un advance , and the
range of prices wns somewhat wider than
the recent average. The export Inquiry nt
Now York was reported to bo unubuted , and
present indications fuvor a further lessoning
of the visible supply on its next publication.
The declining tendency of wheat , and the
bright sunshine near the close of the BBS
eion revived the courage of the bears somewhat -
what , and induced iv little short soiling ,
which caused price1) , in tho' end , to close n
little below the highest of the day. July
shows u gain in the final quotations over
yesterday's resting quotation of % o und
July KC.
Oats shared in the general quietude of the
speculative market , averaging firm , with
jicar futures slightly stronger , owinc to the
inudnrato demand for account of filling In
shorts. July sold at 22M ( < i')2 c , with Sep
tember nt n fractional discount , whllo May
was freely offered nt 25J < $2c $ ( ! , with ono
email trade reported nt .Co. The receipts
were fairly liberal , und the withdrawals
wcro below the rgcont nvorago. No. 2 oats ,
to go to store , were strong , with light sales
nt 22j22 > c. Oats by sample wcro in fair
request , for No. 3 whlto to go to store , and
values averaged } { a higher than yesterday ,
with the bulk of sales at 2l ( c. and sonio
trading In special houses nt 20 c. Rail
shippers nnd the local trada did a lair busi
ness , and prices ruled somewhat higher.

In provisions un easier feeling WAS wit
nessed. The receipts of hogs wcrono larger
than the trade generally anticipated , but
they unexpectedly sold lower , and exerted a
liciuish influence- the product. The spec
ulator. ! , as a rule , wcro more Inclined to sell
than usual , and in the absence of outside
buying orders , and only a light current do-
imind , they found the market In poor shape
to accommodate them. Their offerings helpet
along the depressed tendency exhibited , and
lower prices prevailed almost ns u mutter of
course : short ribs were Urn strongest article
on the list , though they suffered a decline ol

attendance on the stock exchange at the
opening to-day. The Interest appeared more
than usual , nnd the market opened active
nnd Irregular. Vonderbilt ana Gould htocks
were almost neglected. London was a light
seller , nud Chicago was on the buying side ,
and the great part of the trade talked bull
ish. The first prices were very Irregular ,
Hock Island , Louisville & Nashville , Dela

being lower , whllo Jersey Central , Oregon
Transcontinental , and Western Union were
higher , the changes extending to % per cent
from last night's ' price * . Some irregularity
was shown In the early dealings , when Oregon
gen stocks und Atchison made marked ad
vances , whllo the general list moved over n
small range , nnd some stocks , ns the Lacku-
wanna and Now England , soon developed
consldnrnblo weakness , declining fraction
ally. Oregon Navigation gamed 1 per cent ,

market was Influenced by the coal stocks ! ,
which bucamo active nnd strong ; Lacku-
wanna moved up to 14 3 % , followed by Head
ing , and others , which gained but small
fractions. Aside from the coalers , the ao
tlvity was limited to St. Paul , Atehison ,
Now England and Union Pacific. At noon
tha market was firm nt bettor than the
opening figures. The strength of the morn
ing in stocks , under the load of the advance
In coalers , was delusive ; the market proved
a weak ono under natural conditions. Heavy
realizing sales after 12 o'clock caused a de

through the entire list , and loft prices at the
close very materially lower than last night.

Cattle.
Wednesday , June 19.
Close to two thousand cattle made up to
day's receipts. The market ruled unusually
slow , In fact It was flat all the morning. The
reports from other points were unfavorable ,
and the packers had orders to buy 20@-.r > o
lower. The shippers hud information that
their cattle were selling on the Chicago mar
ket at about what they paid for them hero.
Under such circumstances the buycr3\woro
very timid , and the volume of business was so
small during the forenoon ns to cut no figure
In the market. It was late before salesmen
could find nn outlet for their cattle oven ut n
concession of 15Z20c. ( It bus been weeks
since the market lias boon in such n bnd con
dition as it was to-day. There have been
low days and slow days , but nothing so bad
as to-dn.v's ' trade. There is only ono word
that can anywhere near express the situa
tion , and that word Is "demoralized. "
IJutclicrs' stock did not suffer so much ns
bouf cattle , but it was weak. There was
nothing new in the stacker and feeder line ,
excepting a disposition on the part of buyers
to obtain u reduction In prices.
llo < cs.
llocs sold In the same notch as yesterday ,
and that Is about all there Is to say about the
market. The demand was good , both local
nnd shipping , nnd the pens were cleared at
an early hour. Nearly everything sold
within n range of 5c , the most popular price
bmrig $3.C ( > for heavy and mixed hogs. Some
choice light sold as high ns $4.05. Thus far
this week the market bas been very steady ,
and there have been no fluctuations in
prices.
Siiccp.
There were n few sheep hero , but they
were consigned direct to a packer , and were
not offered on the market. There is a pretty
good demand , und If there wcro any desira
ble muttons hero they would sell at firm
prices.
