The description given by Mr. My nek seems to tally with that of ono of the unidentified bodies , nnd is probably Mr. Myrick's bon. Coroner Druxol replied hy referring the writer to the coroner of Saundcrs county. The Livery Men Combine. The liverymen who , us announced in Tun Bnu several days ago , have raised the prices of carriages and hearses for funerals to the cemeteries have induced two more livery firms to Join them , thus making the number seven. These have formed an association , the meeting , for that purpose being held yesterday in Sherwood's ouico on Thirteenth street near Farnam. The gathering was a , secret ono and resulted among other thinga in the selection of oilicers , tlionumesof whom , however , the combine refuse to make known. Where Are the 1'otitionn ? "I see hy Tins Hun , " said a contractor , "that the council has lot the contract for the paving with cypress of Eighlccenth and Sev enteenth streets , between Farnam and Hur ney , as well as Grace and another street , to Uegan Brothers. That w.is not right , why should there bo any discrimination in favor of cypress ! Why not give stone and cedar pavers a chance on those streets ? No peti tion to p.ivo thorn with cypress was over filed , and every contractor in the city ought to have been given a chance to obtain the work. " _ Will Omaiia Accept It ? A well-attended meeting of cltizona of Florence was held Tuesday afternoon to consider the subject of a large park at that place , as already referred to in TUB BIIS. A long discussion ensued , and finally a commit tee , consisting of Hugh G. ClAVlr , V. G. Lantry and M. Nothing 1ms as yet been said concerning the cause for this action on the company's part , and the men are not fueling exactly right on the subject. They claim that the only infer ence to be derived by the public in regard to their discharge is the idea that they have been "knocking down" a portion of thu re ceipts , and that in this light the case now stands. No other cause can bo ascribed. The onicials of the road have never im plied thnt , and douotless uovcr will. Some time ago It was announced that the Chicago , Milwaukee & St. Paul road would advance the salaries of their passenger con ductors to 150 per month. This movement was decided by the management of the road as an inducement to the men to refrain from acting in any other manner than perfectly square , and , In fact , leave no temptation In their way. "Kor one , I've paid the city of South Omaha $1,000 in less than twelve months , but t don't sec the city doing anything for UH , " said a leading citizen of Alhrluht ton HEI ; reporter.'o have ono or two mem bers In the council who don't forget ua , and wo won't forget them at election time ; but , everything wo have iislcuil for has been voted down. If thu city moans to keep on like that , they will find that wo have a lot of lighting men. In the last two months , wo have hud five houses burned down , and no liydr.ints , water-service , or llro-bripado to help us out. The last llro was Tuesday , and wo had to carry water from our wells , but wo could not carry enough to save ono poor man from losing his homo. If the city will see that the mains arc extended and If they tfivo us a fuw hundred feet of hose wo will take care of this rest. " Knquiry at this engineer's odlco led to the statement that there was no reason why Al bright should not have a water service , pro viding that the Water Works company would lay the mains. It was also learned that now is the proper time to lay them , as within a week or two Itallioad avenue will bo paved , and as that is thu street they would traverse the p.ivini ; would have to be torn up. If the matter is properly presented to the council nnd the water company , it will no doubt bo attended to. Politics. South Omaha politicians are settling down to bnsinc s , and will apparently have a hard row to hoe. In the democratic ranks the packing-house employes are bound to have one of themselves in the legislature , and are endeavoring to have the delegates to the county convention pledged to his support in advance. Thu str.iiifht democrats object to coercion und wish the delegates to KO unpledged. Amoiitf the republicans opinion is also divided , and two factions are kept busy tryinjr to outwit eurh other in the choice of a ticket , with Webster and Cou ncil respectively at the head. The united labor party is working harder than either of the others , and is at least united , with Van Wyck as their first choice. Notes About tlio City. Top price of boss yesterday , 0.5' ' ) . An ordinance passed m 1870 , when K. II. Wilbur was mayor of the city of Omaha , provided that nobody should bo Interred within the city limits until a permit signed by the secretary of the board of health was giveu to the cemetery guardian. The law bus been iiractleulbyvobsoleto , uml has never been enforced , but MOW It is learned that the management of Fermi Laxvn propose to in sist upon its fulfillment in the future. It has been stated that the undertakers of the city would take u stand against this pro ceeding on the ground that it would put them to additional expense , but such is not the case. The undertaker has noth ing to do with thu mutter. U resta entirely with the friends and relatives of tile deceased. When a death occurs it is the duty of the physician attending to till out and sign a death certifi cate stating the cnuso of dissolution , which certificate is taken to the undertaker or di rect to the superintendent of the cemetery , who Issues a burial permit. The physician is also required by law to report the case lethe the secretary of the board of health. This latter provision Is not at present com plied with for various reasons which Interest only the physician and the .secretary , and which are in substance as subjoined : 1. That no physician relishes the Idea of slpiltit. his name to a death certificate. A doctor who has attended a case which has resulted fatally will in nine cases out of ten neglect this duty unless absolutely compelled to attend to It. ! i. Hccuuso the secretary of the board neg lected his dtltv In demanding a compliance with thu law. The action of the cemetery people in refus ing burials without permits will , it is said , result in the enforcement of thu law as re gards certificates of death. Thu reportingof deaths to thu secretary is a matter which he himself will have to attend to. The UNION PACIFIC was the llrat Trans-Continental Line. FOll THK MONTH Ol < - JULY.
