ffcltinR well loaded and those who have been
stoppering along for months found an oppor
tunity to unload ut a profit and let olhers
bear the burden for a while. It Is like all
other bull spurts nnd will hnvo to run Its
course. Union Pacific was advanced over 1
point on the report that It earned 0 per cent
on its stock last year. Pullman cnmo to the
front nnd advanced } on buying by German
houses. The bear houses have been caught
short of Grangers nnd In many instance ? run

Offerings of bonds to the government to
day were 13,022,000 , nnd 12,800,000 were ac
cepted. This was good news to the bulls but
as operators who had profits In dcnls wcro
disposed to secure them , offerings became
larger nnd despite free covering of shorts In
St. Paul nnd Union Pacific by a large room
trader the edge was taken off the advance
the last hour nnd the close was decidedly Ir
regular , Louisville & Nashville showing a
net dolino of ? , ' , New England J/ , and Pa-

Wednesday , April 25,1S98.
To-day'fl cattle market opened quito brisk
with hnndy little cattle in good demand and
selling lit very nearly steady prices. Heavy
cuttle were neglected to a. great extent and
were 5@lto ( lower. Under the Influence of
unfavorable reports from Chicago the market
cased off and closed dull. Even little cattle ,
unless they happened to ntvlko the buyers
fancy had to bo Bold a little easy. A very
fair proportion of the receipts , over a thous
and head , changed hands befoio the close.
llO H.
f
The receipts of hops only fell a few loads
loads short of being ns heavy as on yester
day. The market opened uctlvo on choice
heavy hogs and strong , ns high ns fo.40 being
paid. The lighter and more common mixed
loads , which were not suitable for the Bos
ton trade were not in as good demand and
were lower. After the heavy hogs were
nbout all taken the buyers proceeded to ham
mer prices down on the balance and the
nmrkot clorcd lOc lower. The hoys were nil
sold , however , before the close.

There was a few loads on sale but the

Htmebaugh & Taylor bring suit against C.
E. Mayne for $ J48.bO and Interest due on cer
tain promissory notes given by defendant.
AMUSEMENTS.
Miss Gooilrich ns Pooaliontns.
Miss Eunice Goodricti appeared last night
at the Grand opcr.i house in "Pocahontas. "
"Pocahontas" is a burlesque. It is ono of
the first as it was also ono of the best bur
lesques which has been produced on the
American stngc. It is still a credit to the
lamented John Brougham , upon whoso work
an hundred imitators have since achieved
fame and fortune. But Miss Goodrich and
her company cannot appear to advantage in
burlesque. They are worthy of commenda
tion in their regular business , and they will
hereafter appear in business in which they
are capable of appearing to advantage.
A Bnfl Day For Burllncton.
The "capablcs" on the Burlington had a
bad record shown against them yesterday.
All passenger trains wcro bulletined late and
passengers fumed and swore. Important
runs wcro considerably off from scheduled
tlmo. many being from two to three hours
late In arriving and departing. No excuse
for the delays was forthcoming from the
ofllclals.
Tlioy Want Mr. Ktmuall.
Detective Humphrey Moynihan carries a
subpoena for Manager T. L. Klmball , of the
Union Pacific railroad , who is wanted before
the manufacturers committee of the house of
representatives at Washington to answer
questions they may wish to ask next Mon
day. Mr. Moynihan has called at the head
quarters of the road several times , but at
each visit has been notified of the absence
from the city of Mr. Kiinbull.
A Great Battle
Is continually going on in the human
system. The demon of impure blood
strives to gain victory over the consti
tution , to ruin health , to drag victims
to the grave. A good , reliable medi
cine like Hood's Snrfcaunrillu is the
weapon with which to defend one's self ,
drive the desperate enemy from the
field , and restore peace and bodily
health for many years. Try this pe
culiar medicine.
