September , October and May were the most

the backbone of the bllsterlne hot
spell appears to have been broken.
The market opened about X&X ?

Ing broke sharply another J/c , at which point
a lar o number of buying orders wore struck
and a lively battle ensued. Commission
merchants generally were buyers , and the
local crowd were free sellers. Very soon ,
however , selling orders began to come In
from the ralned-on districts , and soon the
majority of those who were the most cncr-
Ri'tlc bulls yesterday got as pronouncedly on
the other side of the fence. It must not bo
Buppofied , however , that the country as a
whole has turned bearish , for such Is not the
case , and the stream of buying orders con

side. Augudt opened- 'te e , declined

The run of cattle to-day was moderate.
The market opened almott lifeless owituc to
the unfavorable reports received from Chicago
cage , indicating a heavy run and lower
prices. A few loads changed hands but at a
decline ot 5@10c from yesterday's prices ,
There was a slight gain In the receipts of
hogs as compared with yesterday. Willie
there were a very few coed hogs in the average -
ago quality was poor , which makes the mar
ket appear lower than It really was. The
unfavorable outlook in Chlcaco had a de
pressing ellect upon thn hoe market as well
as upon the cattle market. The martcet hero
opened a little slow at a decline of about 5c.
It continued weak but fairly active and the
bulk were sold before noon. The market
closed fully lOc lower than yesterday with
nine loads left over , the salesmen being un
willing to take the prices.
