Stocks At the opening of the market this
morning the market was weak and prices
yielded from J to go , led by the Union Pacific ,
Pacific Mail and New York Central , while
Lackawanna declined lo. The lowest prices
of the day were made at this time. Between
11 and 12 o'clock there was a rally of i to Igc ,
the strongest stocks being Lake Shore , which
advanced Igc , Now York Central and Lacka
wanna , IJc , and Union Pacific , Ic , In the
afternoon the general list remained about
steady until near the close , when it showed
some signs of being tired , but closed steady
at a little below the best pricoa of the day.
Union Pacific was heavy in the afternoon and
Lackawanna steady after it lost Ic from mid
day quotations.

active , and there ia some prospect for an im
provement before long. Candling la now
neceesary , and shippers would find it to their
advantage to do it before shipping , instead of
paying freight ou rotten egaa.
Poultry Receipts of old chickens continue
to be quite heavy and sales are not very brisk
at 3 00 per dozen ; spring chickens are loss
plentiful , but being mostly small sized , don't '
go above § 3 > 0 , Larger sizes are In strong re
quest and will bring better prices.
Potatoes Receipts have bean heavier this
last week , and show a good deal of inferior
stock , spongy and sprouted ; mixed stock sells
at 60o and peed quality at G0aG5c ; ; , which is
the best price now obtainable. New potatoes
are already coming from the south and selling
at 4 00 per barrel.
Onions Now southern sell at 85 0(1 ( per
