Dooley , na .j At F rt SCALDED TO DEATH , A Fearful Accident Near the Florence Out-off , An Engine Leaves the Track and Killn the Engineer. Details of the Recent Fatality on the Norfolk Branch. Tba Damage Salt at Tekamak Oo s Against the Road. A terrible and fatal accident occur red on the St. Paul & Omaha road Sunday evening about 7:30 : o'clock. The aouth-bonnd freight train waa coming down the grade near the Flor ence cat-off , being about three miles above Florenoo and a mlle and a half this aide of the summit. At this point they were running very slow , as the down grade la qnlto abrupt , and when near a email bridge the engineer oaw a cow standing on the track. lie at once whistled down broker , but the cow instead of getting off the track eimply turned her hcnd about and looked toward the rngiuo , which immediately after itraok her. The rate of speed was too small to knock herjcloarof the track , but eh" r .Hod up on the pilot , and In thi * v uy thu engine ran upon the bridge. When half way across the animal fell off and the forrrard truoku of thu locomotive wore thrown from the track and began to bunch up the ties. Wherever they wore crowded together oho passed over all right , and succeeded in reaching the egdo of the embankment before oho left the track. The engineer was Mr. Joronio I. Getty , a joung , unmarried man about 25 years of age. Ho formerly worked on the Union Pacific , and waa a mem ber of Division No. 28 , of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen , at North Platto. Bo waa a sober , cool-headed young man , and , seeing that ho could do no more for his en gine , ho climbed out through the cab window on the right aldo upon the running board , ready to jump , Hit firemen stood In the gangway on the opposite aldo , and the last ho saw ol the ill-fated engineer waa aa he drew his foot out through the window. The engine had meantime atoered to the right and at thla moment loft the track and rolled over down the em baukmont , wnloh varied from 15 to 30 feet in height , Poor Getty bad chosen the fatal aide and fell beneath his engine , the steam from the broken attachments aotldlnp him to death.
