The wholesale trade of the city for th
iast week , in moat lines , was quiet , as
usual at this Reason
Coal exhibited as much animation
anything owing to the cild weather.
The demand for dry goods , boots and
eeg , clothing and furnishing goods , roll
inery , &c , continues light.
Groceries were a little more active a
comptratirely steady prices , though sui r
and cuffoes were oaaior. The demand for
dried fruits continues slack , while canned
goods sold moderately.
The general produce and commission
business was fairly active throughout the
eek , though the weather was too cold t )
admit of free movement of green fruits and
vegetables.
Butter , eggs , poultry and game were in
fair request and prices unchanged.
Flour w s quiet. Other mill stulf.i met
with fair tale at quotations.
Provisions were a little more active and
stronger than la t week.
Cjmmi-tiion merchants are looking for
ward to k largo trade in oranges and
einonn , M the arrivals at the ports of New
York , Boston , Philadelphia and New
Orleani for the month nf January are
larger than ever knowu for the correspond
