During the week the weather has continued - JL tinued very sultry and oppressive , and haste to some extent affected trade. jS > w In dry goods circles business hag been * v cry good. The closing of the first half of the year is usually a quiet time with dry goods jobbers The sales , however , were far ahead of any corresponding time in former years. It is gratifying to bo able to say that notwithstanding the adverse conditions of the weather during the early part of the year and the late opening of the spring trade , the sales for the. past six months just closed have never been ex celled in any former year , and the general result highly satisfactory to the trade. Stocks are also closely sold up , hence job bers will have an unusually small per con- tago of stale ami undesirable goods on hand when the fall trade opens. Tlio tone of the market for all standard makes of bleached brown and colored cotton { fabrics is healthy and firm , nnd many favorite lines very scarce. Prints , ginghams and checks are meeting a light order demand , and standard brands are steadily held. Summer dress goods are meeting a fair av erage sale at steady quotations. Fall stocks are now being placed on the coun ters , and everything is being put in readiness - iness for an active fall trade. Woolen goods auict , but stocks held with increasing - ing confidence that is fully justified by the advancing nrices of wools , which are now higher in proportion than the manu factured goods. White goods , gloves and hosiery are steady nnd in fair request. Prices throughout unchanged. In the line of staple and fancy groceries there ha ? been a fair movement of goods. Sugars , during the past week , have shown considerable weakness and some grades have declined , The situation in commercial circles re mains essentially the same as reported last week. Business was rather more quiet than otherwise and prices steady and un changed. The leading produce markets weio a lit tle firmer , especially for wheat , which advanced - vanced l@2o for the best grades of spring and winter. Com closed steady. Oats advanced Ic. Ilye and barley nominal , Flour was active and firm ; last week's prices ruling. There is a great scarcity of good table butter in the market and consignments of good grades arc wanted , Eggs were dull and lower , the market being slightly over- stocked. Irish potatoes and green apples were also lower , Lemons and oranges are very scarce and advanced G 00@8 00 per box. Drugs and chemicals met a fair demand. The only feature worthy of special note an advance In qninine of 25s per v $ . Paints , oili and glass were un- changed. In heavy hardware , iron and collateral branches little worthy of note transpired. Tinners' supplies steady and unchanged , Nothiiijr new in the lumber trade was re- ported. Stocks large nnd firmly held , Within the last day or two a weaker feel ing was reported , both in hides and leather , but no Mtn l declines occurred. Wool was dull. OmnbnVBolMtila Rfiu-kat.
