Any individual who ohancod to visit tho Univoraity o Nobraska tho lattor part of this week could not but uoto tho downcast look of its many attendants. It is seldom that such an ovont as tho resigna tion of any ono causes so much rogrot, but our chancellor has so endeared himself to the hearts of all, has so boon as ono of us, that his doparturo is looked upon by evorv ono as that of a doar friond instead of an official of tho state. No matter who may bo secured, the progress of tho university is bound to be checked for some timo at least. "Wo may secure ono who has tho ability to occupy tho chair of authority fully as woll as he, but it will tako timo to make his qualifications known to tho people of tho stato. Wo cannot deny but that tho university and tho stato at largo sutrors a severe blow at tho resig nation of our present chancellor, and it will tako tho effort of every one to holp lighten it. "While mournful for our loss, we can see that the chancellor greatly benefits his own circum stances by the change. No ono will envy the success and honor which ho has attained, and The Nebraskan, as tho representative of tho student body of the uni versity of Nebraska, feels safe in extending to Chancellor Cunficld tho heartiest congratulations of every attendant of this institu tion for tho good fortune which has befallen him. Work Begun. Max Westorman was found Tuesday afternoon watching tho work of resurrecting tho founda tions of the main part of tho li brary building. Ho said: "Yes, they have started. The contract for tho completion of the build ing has been let to Grace it Kol loy, Lincoln contractors. They started this morning to clear away the earth from tho foundations of the main part of the building, and will commence work upon the superstructure just as soon as ma terial can bo got upon tho ground. Tho wing is not yot complotod insido, but that mattor will also bo taken up at onco and tho books will bo in placo by August. And, by tho way, when this library building is finished it will not bo a second Nobraska Hall. That building is a disgraco to tho cam pus. "Wlion complotod tho li brary building will havo cost in tho vicinity of 100,000. It will bo a building that wo may justly be proud of, and woll worth tho oxortion it took to got it." Last Rocita'.
